are there any Police or Sheriff Deptartments that still use revolvers?

Last I heard, Houston PD does not issue guns, officers supply their own. Don't know about revolver use, though

As I understand it, they do provide their own guns and up until a few years ago, could get whatever they wanted. Now, graduates from a certain year forward they still buy their own guns but the gun has to be a .40 caliber auto. Prior to that year the older men can still carry their old guns whatever they may be (.38 Revolver or .45 Auto or whatever) and are grandfathered out over time

I do.

My agency has a very broad policy that allows us to use almost anything we can qualify with. I currently carry a S&W 681PC 4" w/ Federal 125gr JHP's on my hip and a S&W 642 w/Federal 110gr HSHP's in my offside pocket. I get a little crap now and then but nobody is willing to go to the range w/me and put their $$$$ where their mouth is.

A lot of officers carry a Scandium lightweight smith as backups in ther pockets so you'll never see em!!! If the auto fails it reassuring and better than a flashlight.

Houston?

Funny in my downtown building I 've seen at least 2 HPD officers carrying revolvers. Both looked to be 686+'s (one had some nice wood grips on it). Neither looked to be much older than 35.

I've also seen the officers carrying 1911's C&L as well, although yeah, most look like they are carrying some breed of Glock.

I thought about walking up and asking them what model they were carrying but thought my query might be met with limited enthusiasim :D

Im thinking that Id carry my usp .45f as my main, then a scandium .357 in a pocket, and one on ankle, and a knife. They are so lightweight, that recoil is going to be horrid, but if it came down to using one of them, Id rather have the sore hand then the head-stone.

I think the Miami-Dade police department issues revolvers but most officers opt for personally owned autos. I saw an officer yesterday with a K frame Smith.

Broward Sheriff in FL will actually terminate you for carrying anything except Glock as a primary, I'd like to see em go to H&K, but they are pricier. I'd much rather replace my issued glock for a usp.

What is you're issue weapon w4klr? Glock 22?

You have to follow the department guidelines in regards to an issue weapon. Because you don't like it does not mean you can change it.
I bet nothings states you can not carry a revolvers for back up.

I don't think any department's issue weapon is a revolver.

Yup, G22, it's an excellent duty weapon, my two secondaries (heh) are both 2 1/2 Pythons with 357mags in the cylinder.

BSO really didn't get picky until recently it seems. I used to carry my Springer 1911 as my primary.

I've seen a security guard at a local Social Security Administration office carrying what looked to be a Ruger GP100. Don't know if that's standard issue for them.

I currently carry a S&W titanium as back up. Some of our court bailiffs carry revolvers. Most are retired guys working part time. I have to carry my Glock as primary but when working nights will usually carry another full size weapon. Most times it's another Glock 23 but occasionally a 1911 or S&W 13PC.

Does anyone remember the writings of Evan Marshall(I think) many years ago when talking about Detroit PD guys having to carry a model 10 as primary but then carrying a 1911 or model 58 on thier off side on the duty belt as a back up?
