Ok so Col. Cooper farts and it makes headlines? Lets just say, for the sake of argument, that Col. Cooper notices some guy show up at a shoot with a Luger, and Cooper quips "he must know something I don't", would there be a run on Lugers the next day? Would Lugers be making a comeback?
On a more serious note, it may be that more folks are buying revolvers these days (in general) in the same way that more people were buying guns period. IE: Pre-Brady and Post 9-11.
I still have yet to see more than 3 revolver shooters at an IDPA match, even though many of the competitors claim to carry a wheelgun as their CCW. Maybe they just LIKE tap-rack-bang drills or tac reloads. On the other hand, on any given trip to the range I see plenty of revolvers.
I don't think revolvers "went" anywhere. I think the boycott of SW made a lot of people quit buying them. (Though Colt quit making their revolvers for a time.) It's not like there was shortage of viable products, but compared to auto loaders, there hasn't been much radical improvemnt in revolvers until quite recently (ie ultralite scandium, titanium, and 7 or 8 shots).
Maybe its new shooters? Maybe then boycott is relaxing?
