Are Kimbers Really "All That" ?

I also have a Custom Eclipse II. No FTF or FTE to date. Loves 200gr. SWC. Would I buy another Kimber? In the process now.

Pretty lame, September11. You're entitled to deliver your opinion but if you expect to throw out misinformation like that and emerge unscathed, you're most likely going to be disappointed. You should have quit after the apology.

Actually to the best of my knowledge, Kimber has not filed bankruptcy since they started making 1911s. A distribution company they were using filed bankruptcy, not Kimber.

I do not own a Kimber but two of my friends do own them and neither one of the pieces worked. After hearing of their problems with their Kimbers I decided to stick with my Colts. No problems with them.

Misinformation on TFL? Get out of here! This is a discussion board, not a fact board. Who is dumb enough to come here expecting everyone to have their facts together? People come here and relay things they have experienced or just things they have heard. Most of us don't have the time to research useless information before posting a response to a thread. I think Kimbers suck! How about that? Do you think I care if that sways someone not to buy one?

Kimbers are arguably the finest production 1911s available.

They are also the driving force behind the improvements in the Colt and SA lines of 1911 recently. Which is a possitive thing, if you ask me.

Is anyone able to compare the Kimber to another high end 1911 like the STI? Having read some reviews of the STI, I'm curious about them, but nobody in my area (Seattle) stocks them as far as I know.

Have a series 1 Pro Carry in poly.

Love it!
Very accurate.
Becoming my favorite handgun a bit more each time I shoot it.

It's funny how people get excited when someone delivers a mass produced 1911 with a clean trigger, great accuracy, all the addons, good sights and no sharp edges. All of the things that are prerequisites for other designs. Mind you, the extractor and mags still need to be subjected to usual 1911 voodoo.

Excuse me????
When was the last time you pulled the trigger on a Smith Third-Gen auto? Clean isn't the word I would use to describe it. In fact MOST DA autos have crappy trigger pulls.
As for great accuracy, again I would say that great accuracy is FAR the exception rather than the rule with DA semiautos.

Kimber ain't what it used to be

Uh, yes you can. Recently I purchased a new Gold Match. Jammed even after 500 break-in rounds with ball ammo. Factory mag was junk. Rear sight broke, twice. Gun wouldn't shoot within 2" of point of aim at 10 yards, eve with sights maxed out. Right side ambi-safety bent. Bad trigger with lots of creep.

Sent it back to factory 3 times. Finally they just replaced it with another Gold match. It also had a very bad trigger so I sold it.

I have 5 friends with Kimbers, 3 of 5 had to send their guns in for assorted problems.

From what I can tell, the early Kimbers were very good. In the last 18 months or so, Kimber has had a major quality control problem. You can get a good one, or a dog. For $1000 I expected a heck of a lot more. Fit, finish, assembly quality of my HK p7 is way, way better, and of course it has been flawless over 4,000 rounds.
