Are handgun manufactures backlogged now?

North American Arms is "making to order" now

Just spoke with NAA on the phone. NAA is still so backlogged that they are manufacturing to orders now. They aren't manufacturing for inventory at all, and she told me I probably would not find a PUG in any dealer's inventory as they are making the guns only on firm orders. Says they have a four to six week backlog.

NAA backlog on the PUG is now up to 18 weeks

North American Arms says they are shipping 100 or so of these PUG (5-shot, small) revolvers every week now, but are still backlogged. Orders coming in April were reported to have an 18 week wait before the expected ship date.

I assume many other manufacturers and models are similarly "on backorder."

Yep

I've been on three or four sights tonight trying to find a Kimber and they all said 'early 2010" was the next available. I was looking at Ultra Carry and like models. Not sure about the full sized.

Interesting that you ask. It's a long story. Yes, the gun just came in. I've thought of writing a detailed post on the mess. The short version is that it took over eleven months in total:mad:: three+ months in Virginia last summer before I was moving out-of-state so had to cancel the order and get a refund; then one month lost in the move before I could reorder it; I then placed an order early last October at a gun dealer in Colorado, which began a saga of incompetence and screwups by that gun shop that is just amazing, requiring about 7 1/2 months to receive what I had ordered. All with several checkpoints with the (very responsible and responsive) manufacturer (NAA) so I knew what their backlog was at several points in the process.
