Are Gun Show Prices That Good?

Gun Show Buys

You should know what you want, what it is worth and what you are willing to pay for it. Stick to your plan. Visit every table, find what you planned on buying and try to negotiate, stick to your offer, but it has to be reasonable. If the guy is stubborn walk away. Try this at every table that has the weapon you want. Then you make a return trip to every table you attempted to buy from and try again. I wanted a Mossberg 12 gauge Cruiser and had to do the table talk and walk as above. The going price at all the tables that had the gun was $302 to $395 but after two trips to all the tables that had one I finally got one dealer to lower his price to $265. I do this at every gun show I attend and I have been happy with all my buys.........

I can't remember a time when I used a layaway to buy something, but that has changed since all the hyper activity in the firearm market. My local gun shop (pawn shop but all they have is new guns) typically has a real robust turnover of guns, and the prices are the best I have seen. Consequently, I have been buying more guns and ammo when I can within my own financial parameters (sometimes not within my budget, too!) I see ammo at Wal-mart-I buy it. I see magazines somewhere else- I buys some. I see a good deal on brass or primers- I pick them up when they are available and at a decent price. Now I am tapped out and I see a great deal on a hard to find buy-Layaway. My guy takes 20% down and 90 days to pay the balance. With availability and increasing prices, if I see what I want at a good deal, it has been a good option to lock it in for the time being for 1/5 the price. Then I can get it later up to 90 days. (Although when I put the money down, I seem to always find a good reason to get into my hands within a couple of weeks. I hate to buy something then not be able "have" it in my possesion)

Another place I went to is the place that told me XDM's were illegal in California, so they don't sell them.
If you're in California and the XDM is not on the list, you're not going to get one unless you move. After some checking, the XDM is not on the list.

I'm not too bummed that I can't get an XDM, because the XD's are so similar.
The one I want to get is $588, but first I am thinking about getting a year membership to my local shooting range, but its $190. That way I can shoot a bunch of different guns and see which feels best.

In my experience, gunshow price usually range from about the same as local dealers to moderately higher. The good deals typically come from someone who's got something uncommon or downright obscure and doesn't know what he has. All the best gunshow deals I've found have been on ammo rather than guns.
