Are all the gun-shows on TV done?

Duane Chapman....

Duane "Dog" Chapman is a "convicted" felon & served time in Texas.
His offense is now by TX law, considered a misdemeanor so take that into consideration if you want.
In his first non-fiction book, Chapman said he "doesn't believe in guns" & won't carry a sidearm(even though as a felon he couldn't).
He does, strangely, recount a incident in Denver CO working as a bounty hunter, holding a fugitive at gunpoint with a .38spl revolver.

I was watching one about a month ago, Jim Scoutten ended the episode (Shooting USA? I forget) talking about when the show was aired on ESPN, how he had weekly phone calls from the phobic network execs, and the fits they threw when the show would feature AR-15s or other socalled 'assault rifles'.

True police TV drama.....

A few years ago I worked with a veteran sworn deputy who at the time was a auto theft unit detective.
A group of us were discussing the various basic cable TV shows about real US law enforcement & the hit series; Cops.
We asked the sworn deputy why his agency(1200+ sworn members) which is in a well known urban area, never did a Cops segment.

He said the deputies, elected sheriff, legal(agency lawyers), and county officials all agreed that they didn't want to have the road deputies or detectives followed around by TV crews. They had no desire for fame & glory. They also thought it could be a public safety/liability issue.

When I lived in OR - there was a small WA state department that invited the COPS crew out. They happily filmed them storming the wrong house. Looked good in court. Never made the TV.

I like Scouten and Personal Defense. I don't like some shows that highlight why the host is a tactical paragon and please buy his branded stuff.

I liked Rob Pincus when he was on and Marty Hayes. Same with Mas.

I do feel that some of history of the gun shows with Montana (sp?) were interesting but wasted time with repetitive info and that Gunsite guy just shooting the gun in slo-mo.

I would like more info rather than the small historical cliche repeated by experts over and over.

The only shooting on TV I enjoy is during the Olympics. Other than that all my gun related video watching is done via computer and Yotube.

Off topic but....

A few local sheriffs deputies made entry(with guns drawn) on the wrong address looking for a robbery suspect.
The three sworn deputies scared the skat out of a SE Asia combat veteran who was walking out of his bedroom.
The media had to inform the sheriff's office command staff about the incident. The deputies never told anyone!
Whoops!

COPS is still doing new episodes for Spike TV, which reruns a lot of episodes two or three times a week. Same production crew, just for a new network. They also show a lot of reruns that haven't aired in a while. Makes a nice change from the 100th running of the stolen flamingo on LV Blvd.

Top Shot is still on, just not now. I recommend watching it on DVR, so you can skip the non shooting parts, although this past season had less in house drama than previous seasons.

Top Shot learned from feedback - they dropped the typical reality show drama to get back to the gun usage. It was interesting this past season.

You can find several of the Tales of the Gun episodes on YouTube if you dig hard enough.

Same with Wings of the Red Star, about military aircraft of the Soviet Union.

However, sometimes hours will be wasted going down that rabbitt hole.

Agreed. Season 5 was 100% performance. No politics or manufactured drama. Just put up or shut up. Loved it.

I'd love to see a shooting show a points race, rather than an elimination format, where guys from different disciplines compete to see who has the best all around skill set. Each episode would be all members competing in a different challenge, from multiple target pistol shooting to single shot long range challenges, etc. As the season progresses, their rankings in each challenge would determine a point total, with a winner determined at the finale. How crazy would it be to see a two stage challenge where the shooter runs out to a sniper rifle, gets two rounds to make an X distance hit (extra points for first shot hit), then has to pop up and engage multiple targets with a handgun under speed constraints? With scoring weighed relatively equitably, I would love to see DeFoor vs Miculek, or other crazy match ups.

A show I'd like to see is with two hosts, could be celebs from tv/movies, "celebs" from the shooting world or athletes of some sort

they travel around the US and each episode is them trying out a new shooting sport, from olympic style pistol to cowboy action. info about the guns involved, interviews with top competitiors and a breakthru about the specific sport.

Another one would be just a tv-crew visiting the biggest youtube personalities, from Hickock45 to James Yeager
