Are ALL 1911 owners nuts?

You're supposed to clean these things? I let my USP get so gummed up I can watch the slide cycle. :) Works just fine.

The 1911 was one of the last pistols that was designed to be detail stripped by the user with a minimum of tools. The BHP and most of the later "wondernines" are easy to field strip, but detail stripping is best left to a shop with tools.

Yes, but I'm feeling much better now! In all seriousness, I think the better description would be, obsessive-compulsive.

I personnally took as much enjoyment in cleaning and taking my 1911s apart as much as I did shooting them
I'd send you mine when it gets dirty, except I was taught by my father that you never trust someone else to care for your guns. I regard it as a chore, not a pleasure. But I use the cleaning ritual as an opportunity to check the internals for unusual wear, inspect the springs, occasionally replace the shok-buff, etc.

As far as the guy who was cleaning his gun in the diswasher  is concerned, he was not only lazy, but an idiot, too. SOME lead residue from the gun WILL contaminate the dishwasher. The chances of it contaminating dishes - you know, the things some of us eat food off of - makes cleaning guns, brass, etc. in the dishwasher a very bad idea.

quote by Lavan...

Do NOT take the sear out of a series 70 Gold Cup unless you watch carefully where the little sheet metal clippy thing goes.

It's called a "Jesus Clip" because when it goes sailing off into nowhere, you go, "Oh, Jesus! Where did that thing go!?!?"

Why yes I am nuts......about my 1911's that is.

and .. any other gun is just a gun.......IMHO!

So I'm a gun bigot!
Routine gun maintenance may just help to save your life some day. A clean well maintained gun is cheap insurance in my book.

My 1911's don't require any more maintenance than any of my others. I simply prefer the 1911 therfore I take more pride in them.

Obsessive compulsive is good.... I must admit that the older I get, the harder it is to clean the darn things tho. Seems kind of like work now.

I own SIGs and Glocks as well as 1911s and they all get field-stripped and cleaned. It's just so much faster with a SIG or Glock that you miss it while trying to get your 1911 apart. ;) :D

I could probably BUILD a Sig or Glock in the time it takes to clean a 1911 right. I hate it when those springs go sailing across the room.

But some 1911s just have that, that, wood and blue *fondle factor*!

Sensual pleasure!

Same as old Winchesters and good double shotguns, some examples qualify as "fine things".

I should venture no more crazy talk lest violent and unpleasant debate ensue :D

LOL...

...sounds like someone needs some practice with their 1911...

If you were a true 1911 owner you would know that the word is'nt nuts, it's not obsessive compulsive.

The word is: PASSIONATE

A few of you were close when you said: fondle
