AR-15 Single Shot Lower For Hunting in Pennsylvania

Go ahead and do anything you want. Why would someone ask a legal question pertaining to one state on a forum that covers the whole United States? A solid lower? How long does it take to change lowers? Just go ahead and do it. There is only one Game Warden per County, and some cover more than that. What are the chances he will stop you? You know you want to. Go ahead and do it. If you do get checked, let us know the outcome of the episode.

Gunplummer,

I apologize if I took your post wrong but I believe you were being sarcastic. Now why would someone post a sarcastic comment that people from ALL 50 states can view?

As for the ease of switching the lower, it's a matter of two pins that take all of thirty seconds. The lower WILL NOT accept a magazine, much like the BMG lower. But, after OTHER people on TFL have stated it would be unwise to do so, I believe I will stick to my Mossberg shotgun.

John

I was being very sarcastic. One person from another state thinks that a .22 caliber centerfire is illegal for deer hunting in PA. There is some legalese for you. Why not read the regulations?

It would seem to me that single shot loading an AR would be most aggravating.
I am sure I would find a way to get my finger caught eventually. (seriously, If it will happen, it will happen to me.)

You could buy an 80% lower and have a friend with the appropriate tools cut everything but the magazine well out. I don't know much about 80% lowers but I know enough to know that's an option.

I have never been able to find an 80% lower that doesn't already have the magwell precut. I wish they had them w/o to modify for 9mm mags without buying a mag-block

but, yes, you could get the bmg lower, an just totally remove the gas block and tube, would be a little dirty, but nobody could claim you were using a semi. not saying you wont get hassled though

I think that by the time you go to all that trouble just to make it legal for PA hunting, you will find that every game officer and sheriff's deputy will be stopping you so often just because your gun appears to be illegal, that it will take much of the fun out of hunting with it, unless you are seeking that kind of attention.

Has no one here heard of the BR-15? (Or done a quick internet search? ... There's more than just the BR-15 out there.)

....Or unmilled forgings (which are dirt cheap)? You can get a forging and have it milled without opening up the magwell....
One example: $22.50
Another: $24.99
Or you can call Brass Aluminum Forgings, directly, and get them for $13-15 apiece (depending upon the mood of Kim Weishan [General Manager]-- 248-542-9258).

Thanks for the link on the 0% lowers. I am going to order a couple of those to play with. I wish I could get it with the buffer tube threaded, but oh well

You can.
There are places that sell "20%", "30%", "40%", and "50%" lowers, that have varying amounts of machining done to them.
I can't remember any of the places that offer them, right now, but I know they're available.

(1) Permitted devices. It is lawful to hunt deer during the regular and special firearms deer seasons with any of the following devices:

(i) A manually operated, centerfire firearm.

(ii) A bow and arrow as permitted under subsection (a)(1)(i).

(iii) A crossbow and bolt as permitted under subsection (a)(1)(ii).

(iv) A muzzleloading firearm as permitted under subsection (b)(1) or (c)

I think the OP is looking at this all wrong by wanting a single shot lower. From what I read above he needs a manually operated upper. He needs something like the POF Revolt upper.

The OP states the semi-auto function of the AR is what is illegal.
Does PA not allow the use of Remington 7600's for hunting?

I do not think a pump will help him very much in complying with the hunting regulation he has to comply with.

Doesn't this describe a pump action?:

I'm starting to think that the terminology has been confused between single shot and manually operated....

My thought on manually operated is that an AR could be configured to fit my understanding of manually operated...

Single shot to me means that you stick a bullet in, fire, remove cartridge, then insert another by hand...
