AR-10 A4 sucks need help to fix it

could be a rough / tight chamber or maybe gas leak at the front sight base

FTE can be related to gas port size but a stock AR 10 should be GTG

doesn't sound like a magazine related problem,
another possiblity would be the PO clipped the extractor spring to change the brass landing point. does it consistantly drop brass in the same spot?

one of the gurus on the AR list could prolly point you at the right location to test... http://www.ar15.com/ar15-l/

goat, Thanks for the help, I drowned the bolt and carrier today and took it out. It works much better now. This time it fired 118 rnds with no problem then one stove pipe and 32 more with no problem. It sure is sensitive to being dirty though and it's picky about ammo. Doubt if I'll want one for myself after this fiasco.

I've got an AR10A2, and its digested everything i've tried to feed it. The only problems I've had with it were related to the factory 10 round mags. I ditched those things and converted about 9 20 round M14 mags to work in the AR10, and it works flawlessly. Factory 10 round mags are junk IMHO, the rifle is great though. :)

Just my $0.02...
