Anything like a K-frame with full underlug?

To answer a few, the GP100 was too bulky and the 686 was just a little too big. The K-frames are just slim enough to make the difference for her.

That is kind of tough, then, because a full lug K-Smith is going to be hard to come by. The current count on them is now 131; my earlier numbers of 350-500 were overly optimistic.
Too bad because if it were a standard item, I would want one for myself.

It would be easier to find her a Smolt or Smython, that is, a S&W with Colt Python barrel.

Does she want the full underlug just for weight/recoil reduction?

If so, there are other answers- heavier profile barrels in K framed sized guns -Sec/Speed Six, or Colt's solid rib over the barrel like on the Trooper MkIII ....

.....or is it just esthetics, and "I want one!"?

I would love to have a 3" bbl K-frame full underlug 38 Special (not a 357). That would be one of my dream revolvers. The underlug not so much for looks, but to reduce muzzle flip. I tend to like front-heavy revolvers. (I know the OP stated 4"; but 3" is my preference. Otherwise, I think we're on the same wavelength.)

testuser79: No, the model 66 doesn't cut it - it's not a true underlug, and it's a 357 (I want a 38). Yes, the model 66 is a fine gun. But it's not what I (and the OP) described as above.

buck460XVR: Yes, the 686+ w/ 3" bbl is very close. In fact, I have one. It's my carry revolver. I love it. But it's an L-frame; not a K-frame. So it's not what I (and the OP) described as above.

Keep your eye out for a "PPC revolver". Typically 38 special, heavy
barreled, with a really sweet trigger. Competition guns, they come on the
market more often than you would think. Modified--so no real collector
interest, they can be surprisingly cheap.

Why not a heavy barrel 10-6? or heavy barrel 67?

No it's not a full underlug, but the heavy barrel adds more weight to help keep the recoil down a bit, more or less accomplishing the same thing.

I'd say that's as close as you're likely to get in a widely available K frame.

This is true Savit.

A heavy barrel S&W Model 10 or Model 64 would be tops IMHO, or if you want adjustable sight a Model 15 or Model 67.

Excellent... just excellent.

S&W made 131 of the 4 inch full lug 14-6. JIm Rae who recently retired made them.

They originally were made as awards to be given out at the yearly Police pistol championship shoots in Picayune MS. LAPD won them in 1997 IIRC.

Mine is extremely accurate and probably the last revolver I would part with. Regards 18DAI
