Anyone used Extreme Shock penetrating ammunition?

Nikop23 My grandfather swears by extreme shock. He does more research than anyone I know, has shooting his whole life and hand loading as long as I can remember. He was in the army for most of his life. I trust his opinion with my life. I have done my own research and while I havent bought any(Mostly because I am not even sure I can buy it here in california) I would not hesitate to put it in my bedside piece.

Other than the manufacturers of Extreme Shock, what sources have you (or your grandfather) researched?:confused:

All you need to do is Google their name and you'll read nothing but ridicule about Extreme Shock and their performance claims. :barf:

The ONLY positive reports seem to be Extreme Shock themselves and shooters that are satisfied with overpaying for ammunition that is loaded with marketing hype.

If your grandfather has been shooting his entire life and is an experienced handloader then he should know that there are few secrets in bullet design and ballistic performance. If their lightweight, frangible projectiles are as good as Extreme Shock claims, then be assured that Remington, Federal and the like would be cranking them out by the millions ('cause we the shooting public would be slobbering over ourselves to get them). But Remington, Federal and the like KNOW that such bullets offer little in performance.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Extreme Shock is at it's deadliest when you don't fire them. All you need to do is wear a sticker that says "Extreme Shock On Board".:rolleyes:
 
I got a 20 pack of 9mm "Fang face" 124s Enhanced Penetration for like $8.

They really do work. I shot 5 holes in a paper target, and all penetrated, and they fed well.

TBS, The bullet is a Tungsten-NyTrilium* Composite, which I guess is harder and more dense than the average bullet.

Honestly, if you want a bullet to perform as good or better, I'd say the Barnes X all copper bullet would be a better and cheaper choice.
 
I used Hydroshocks at work. I think that is what they are called. It has been a long time since we discontinued using them. They have a blur plastic cover over a bunch of BBs. I saw a guy get shot with one in the left shoulder and the one round scrambled his insides. He was dead before he hit the ground.

I think these rounds are made by winchester. I had some in my 9mm before I got rid of it. They were the first round and every other one. The others were silvertips.

So, buy good rounds from a reputable manufacturer.

OMG I must be getting old! Duh! the rounds I was referring to in my previous post was "Glaser" rounds. Those are deadly!

Some time back, Patrick Sweeney wrote up Extreme Shock in an article in Guns and Ammo magazine. Near the end he points out that, in the test set up for him by the company, Extreme Shock used a different test medium than standard gelatin. He defends the plausibility of the concept (understandable as they do have advertising dollars to spend), but it rings a bit hollow. If you have to rig the test so that your ammo looks good, maybe your ammo is not so good.

I think you should just get some Gold Dots and leave the Extreme Shock ammo for the professionals. Like these guys.

Does anyone even know what the heck "nytrilium" is? I googled it and didn't get a single thing that wasn't related to Extreme Shock ammo.
 
I believe nytrillium is the same as unobtainium or adamantium. I believe it is alloyed with hypetanium and hugeadvertisingbudgetanium.

My SD load is the much less expensive Hornady XTP. But it doesn't have pictures of ninjas on the box, so it must not be as good.

As for their "Air Freedom Round"....if it "...will not penetrate the skin of conventional aircraft..." it won't penetrate much of anything. The skin of an aircraft--even a big 'ol 747 or C-5 is only a few millimeters of aluminum. Even all of the layers of an aircraft together amounts to, well, just a few millimeters of aluminum. But yet it will penetrate deep enough to stop a charging zombie? Unlikely. Save your money.

I've never tested the stuff, but their claims--especially claims about the "AFR"--are so far outside the realm of physics that I wonder just how many times they have been or will be sued in the future.

It can't be the same as adamantium. Adamantium is the indestructable metal that Wolverine's claws and skeleton are coated in, it would be far too hard on barrels to be used as bullets. I can buy nytrillium being another name for unobtanium though, given Extreme Shock's price.
