anyone try the Knoxx industries Copstock folder

I have

This post prompted me to register for the forum.

My friend bought one for his new Persuader, and we have put about 500 shells through it already. The thing is, neither of us have any experience with shotguns so this is a fresh perspective on my part.

When I first looked at the CopStock, it looked like a serious pain-inducement accessory. I mean, a couple fat wires against my shoulder for a 12ga? He went first, and after just a shrug, I used it. Right off I noticed it didn't slam me back, but rather pushed against my shoulder. It really feels dampened.

I then tried a borrowed 20ga 870 and guess what...that has more recoil force! His pistol-gripped 18.5" barrel Mossberg is more fun to shoot at clays, and (shockingly) I am a dead aim with it. The grip is very fat too BTW, and his came with a Hogue overgrip. Nice.

Now the bad thing. The two cylindrical plastic hinges REALLY dug into my thumb's first knuckle. Even with shooting gloves on I had a skin peelback episode. It's a glaring fault with this thing, honestly. A nice shield or something should be engineered into it.

So the verdict, I am very happy my shoulder is in absolutely no pain after 500 2-3/4 skeet shells. No bruise, nothing. I can't comment on the real purpose of the folding stock, so take what I experienced FWIW.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. Some people hold the pistol grip very high and experience the problem you had. We will be doing a design change as soon as the SpecOps is finished and shipped in February. Watch the website for an upgrade announcement.

Many people assume that the recoil is taken up by the wire frame. That is not the case. The recoil-reducing mechanism is housed in the pistol grip and works regardless of the stock's position. You can easily fire 3" magnum shells one-handed and even hit your target at 20 yards. I can consistantly hit a 12" gong at that distance. I don't recommend trying it with any other pistol grip shotgun setup.

We equip a number of law enforcement agencies with the COPstock for use with the motorcycle units. The US Border Patrol and Customs agancies also use them. There is definately a place for folding stock pistol grip stocks.

yeah

I was gonna say that I used one with a 18.25" 870 12ga, albiet using mostly 2.75" number 7.5 bird loads and an occasional 00B, but I did feel that the recoil was totally, easily, manageable.
I will admit to being relatively recoil-UN-sensitive compared to some folks, though.
What I am now concerned with is that wrong-sized stock pin binding up the receiver! The guy i sold it to probably would like to know.
CaCrusin: how can I tell if one is the incorrect length? and are they available as replacement parts?

There were only about a dozen units that were were incorrectly assembled. We are confident that we have accounted for all of them. THere are no user-serviceable parts on the COPstock and they should not be disassembled or adjusted. If you experience any problems using any Knoxx product, a quick toll-free call to me and I will resolve it. I'm the goto guy here so I stay on top of what's going on very well.

I used to say the same thing...and I really meant it. Then I started putting CompStocks on my rifles (.375 H&H, .300 Win Mag. .270, and all of my shotguns. Now I find that shooting non-Knoxx-compensated guns is much less fun. I still love my Garand but it is so much more pleasant not to have to deal with recoil. My wife and kids can shoot all of my guns...and do.

Been there done that diddnt like them.

Folding stock just dont shoot well. I have had several different stocks on my 870 and ended up with is a pistol grip stock from Chote, a Pachmayer rubber pump, a rememgtion mag extension and thats about it. The Chote's fit was flawless and they also make a take down stock that has a larger flat recoil plate that will shoot much better than a wire.
Yes the wire stock worked for the great 101st, but then again they were shooting 30 carbine, which is a completly different world than 12 gage 3 inch mag, by a couple of pounds of energy.
IF your looking for the smallest package possible go with Chote folding.
A good company with very good products.

Bye-the-bye .... anybody into this "tactical-stuff" ever shot 5X at even 10 yards fast-fire with 00 buck?

Sure easy to do! You never asked how many rounds, or how many boxes of rounds, or casses of rounds. Be more spicific next time {:^)

All Fords are junk...

...and all folding stocks are the same. Neither statement is true.

I appreciate your experiences with other stocks, but unless you tried the COPstock Folder, your prejudice against it is unjustified. It is possible to shoot very good scores with the COPstock Folder as proven by Gary Johnston at Gun Site (Guns and Weapons April 2003 issue). He used the COPstock and did very well with it. I have fired hundreds of rounds using it and found it to be steady and effective as a stock and at reducing recoil. Firing 3" magnum buckshot one handed and hitting the 12" gong at 25 yds is just a bonus. Don't try it with any other folding stock.

No doubt with what you posted.

But the origional letter sounded like the ammount of experance was not that high.
For some one with little experance I would still stay away from a wire stock.
I know how hard the 870 kicks with the folding stock with a very small rubber pad with 3 inch mags, its simply not that much fun.
But if recoil is not an issue than the one that he was asking about would be purfect, Very light and remains small even when folded, unlike the Chotie folding which is quite large when folded.

You missed the point...

The point of the COPstock is that it has a patented and highly effect recoil reducing system in the pistol grip that works with the stock open of folded. There just isn't the pain or discomfort anymore, even with nasty loads. We have duck and goose hunters using them in the field because they want the pistol grip and the recoil reduction for their Mossberg and Remington 3.5-inch guns. A few turkey hunters use them for the same reasons but the SpecOps will be much better for both applications. As a tactical stock, it works well. A number of major LE agencies are currently using them on their motorcycle patrol shotguns with grat success.

Several have asked why a turkey hunter or anyone else would want a pistol grip stock. The answer has to do with hunting style. Most turkey hunters camo up and call the turkeys to them. They have to sit for long periods absolutely still. Holding a traditionally stocked shotgun for a long time creates severe pain in the strong hand wrist. A pistol grip alleviates this problem and makes holding the shotgun much more comforatble. It also gives them more control over the shotgun.

Thanks for the polite discourse. It's hard to find these days.

I think people don't really realize just how much this thing dampens recoil. Today I shot my new Benelli 20ga and it has considerably more recoil force than the copstock had with 12ga. My shoulder hurts after 2 boxes, but we shot many more rounds with his and neither of us felt like quitting.
