Anyone own or have shot a Mossberg ATR 100 bolt-action rifle?

does anyone own or have shot a Mossy ATR 100?, i am considering buying one in .270 Win, i have read some reviews on them and would like some info/feed back from my fellow TFLers.

The Mossberg is OK, it's better than the Remington 770, but that's not saying much.

I would recommend the Marlin X7, the Ruger American, the Savage Axis or the Weatherby Vanguard over the Mossberg.
 
thanks for info natman, but the guy i would be buying it from, i dealt with him before and for $350 comes with a case and optics, and is LNIB.
 
thanks for the info quadpod88, in fact the reviews that i read about the ATR 100 were in .30-06, not sure if that's the deer thug model though.
 
Gent I shoot with about every Sunday at range we are members showed up with a 7mm-08 ATR his son had bought. He had it to zero the scope and try his reloads in it. Will bring rifle to range 3 straight Sundays. When finished with the rifle, I asked his opinion of the ATR. He had nice things to say about the rifle, decent trigger, shot well and that he might buy one for himself. My friend doesn't mind spending money for an accurate rifle. His last two rifles came from Remington's custom shop and ones before those were the higher end Savages.
 
I had an early one that I traded away to a buddy that took two nice deer this last year with it. It always shot well and recoil out of the 270 was modest. I traded it to him for a shotgun I thought I would like better than I ended up enjoying. I recommend them. Also the New ones have an accutriger setup.
 
I had one in .270 , but I never shot it . A guy came along with a Model 70 in .243 Win. that he wanted to swap even for it . That I believe is what is called a no brainer ! There have beeen some issues with some that have had their bolts disassembled , and put back together by their owners !
 
I owned one in .270 for a short time and it shot well. I just ended up trading it to a friend that needed a new rifle and this one was sort of a back up rifle for me. I'd buy another one.
 
They sell new on gunbroker for $370 with Glass. Like New is still used! I think it would depend on the quality of the used glass...a cheap package Bushnell or something better.
 
I picked one up at a gun show last year for 225 dollars... in .270 win. Great shooting rifle, I have to say. I can't find any issues with it.

My older son has it now. Fantastic "beat around" bolt gun if you ask me.

my Savage likes Remington green box 130 corelokts but i would buy a bunch of different flavors and see what it likes.

Hornady Customs are good too.
 
I bought my son a youth model 100 ATR chambered in .308 Win. As readers on the reloading forum may recall, this particular rifle has yet to shoot anything well other than Federal Fusion 150 grainers. Its the strangest thing I've seen.... it won't shoot Hornady Match, or Federal GMM, or any of the other more "premium" factory loads that I've tried. I've tried handloading it with Varget, IMR 4350, BL-(C)2, and a few others, using different bullet styles, and have yet to produce a handload capable of better than 2". But the Fusions are consistently under 1" from the bench, and occasionally much better than that. So guess what... I bought several boxes of Fusions and pronounced it "good to go". I have too many other projects to get stonewalled on something that already has at least one decent solution.

On the rifle itself, it's really okay. I bought it at Dicks as a package deal, and almost immediately removed the crappy scope that came with it... it looks like a cheap Bushnell without the name brand affixed. Replaced it with a Redfield Revolution, and it's much better. The action is not what I would call smooth... but it works well and seems darn near indestructible. It has never failed to feed or eject, so with that type of reliability, the warts are easier to overlook.

while not germaine to your question, I do also dislike the stock. As a youth model, this particular one seems suited to someone under 4'. I haven't actually measured the LOP, but my 5' son needs a slip on recoil pad, and even then the LOP is less than optimal...but a full-size stock still causes him to reach. Since he says he really likes the rifle, his intention is to put on a Boyd's when he needs to make that jump instead of selling off the rifle. He killed one deer with it this year, and I suspect he'll do even better next year. If he doesn't, it sure won't be the rifle's fault.
 
I have one in .308 (Mossberg ATR). Took it down as soon as I got it and cleaned everything including removing the scope mounts and loctiting them, threw a cheap Bushnell 4x16 on it and mine will shoot around 2" or less with factory ammo. Mine is a later model with the fluted barrel and their version of the "accutrigger" so not sure if that makes a difference or not compared to others but the trigger on mine is really nice (light and crisp). Honestly I wish I had something bad to say about it but it's been a great rifle for what I paid for it which was $329 and it included an even cheaper 3x9 scope on it that I put on a .22. :D
