Anyone loading 7.62x39?

SKS loads

JD....All I did with my SKSs is remove the piston and fire away. The WW brass wasn't all that cheap then and I still don't like scrounging around in the grass for brass.
Old store of WW680 and 125- 150 gr. Bal. Tips worked for me, even though they were undersized.

What projectile is that?

The cast boolits are HM 311-160-5

I have also found this bullet to be the BEST boolit I have tried in my 30-30's.
not kidding ether, They really like it.

If you can not find the HM mold NOE also makes one very similar. Also designed by ED Harris for the 7.62x39.
Shoots just as well.

I don't own a bolt gun in X39 but I do shoot cast lead in both my Yugo and Chinese SKS and have for about 7 years now. I currently shoot two different bullets in the X39.

My current go to bullet for most of my shooting is the Lee tumble lube gas check 160 RNFP. The bullet cast at close to .314" on the back driving band,I tumble lube lightly once before and once after applying the gas check. The other bullet is the little Lee .314" 32 cal. 90 gr. tumble lube SWC.

For powder I mainly use Alliant 2400 for my cast lead,in the Chinese SkS I can go as low as 12.5 grs. and get reliable cycling and the brass drops right at my feet. In the Yugo it take 14.5 grs. for reliable cycling with 15.0 grs. being th MAX.. You may find that in some SKS rifle the Max. charge of 2400 want cycle reliably. In those instances I've found 18.0 grs. of Reloader #7 cycles all day long and throws the brass about 10' away. Reloader #7 is my go to powder for J bullets as well as my backup powder for cast.

With the Little Lee 90 gr.s SWC. I just cast it from pure lead and lightly tumble lube it once before and once after sizing it to .314" For powder I use 3.0 grs. of Allaint Bullseye and any large rifle primer. Velocity runs just under 1K fps. subsonic and are very accurate out to 50 yds. probably more with a scoped rifle. They want cycles in the SKS but I loaded these for small game and pest shooting so cycling the action by hand is no big deal. No fillers are need with any of the loads I've mentioned.

One bonus is that my SKS's and Mosin rifles all share the same groove dia. so these two bullets work just as well in the Mosin as the SKS. I can also size both bullets down to .311" and shoot them in my various 30 cal. US rifle as well. I'm currently thinking about adding one of the two new to be produced NOE molds designed for the 7.62 x 39.
