Anyone know any impossibly accurate and reliable guns under $500?

Since criminals who use vests are becoming increasingly common, I think it's a valid concern. It seems odd that anyone would object to someone wanting a pistol accurate enough for head shots when the mozambique technique is a commonly accepted tactical drill for military, police, and civilian self defense.

If you've heard about the incidents of the drug cartel and gangs using military hardware and equipment and you don't think about how to defend against it you are failing to recognize a trend that we should all be concerned with.

That being said, I have several handguns that meet the OP's description:

RIA 1911 .45ACP........$400
Berretta 92F 9mm........$375
Browning Hi power 9mm......$350
S&W 5906.......$300

I'd carry any of them on a mission without a second thought.

What kind of accuracy are you looking for? Tack driving at 50 yards? Most guns are more accurate than the shooter will ever be

Im creeped out as well. If he wants to, I would like to have the OP elaborate on some of those comments. To me, it sounds like he wants to shoot at police officers. This forum is for self defense and sporting purposes. If those comments are deemed to be on the other side of the law, PLEASE close this thread!!!

I surely dont want to be giving any advice that will be used in an unethical or illegal way!!!

A band of pistol-brandishing robbers clad in bullet-proof vests invaded a Cle Elum home on Friday, tying up a woman and stealing property before they fled.

The complexity and obvious planning behind the crime left police in the area stunned. The robbers, as many as six, remained on the loose Friday night. Early leads in the case indicate that crooks are from the Seattle area.

Batesburg-Leesville Police Chief Wallace Oswald helped create a 2001 law making it a felony for anyone to wear a bulletproof vest while committing a violent crime. This weekend, Oswald got a chance to put that law into action, as two men were arrested after a violent home invasion and shootout with police Friday night in Batesburg-Leesville. A third suspect was still on the run. Oswald said the man who shot at police was wearing "a military-issue-type body armor that we wore

The bank robberies unfold in a matter of minutes as the masked, highly disciplined assailants threaten employees and customers with assault rifles and handguns and swiftly grab bundles of cash.

The choice of vehicles has also intrigued detectives.

The men have stolen mostly Acuras and minivans, both common on area streets and unlikely to raise much suspicion. The vans offer the gunmen room to maneuver in bulky body armor

There are a bunch of laws on the books meant to prevent felons from owning vests and enhancing penalties for crimes committed while wearing vests. Apparantly the OP isn't the only one concerned with being attacked by someone wearing body armor.

If my primary goal was to defeat body armor using a legal handgun, I would use a .30 Carbine (Ruger Blackhawk or Automag III) with hot handloads made with pulled .30 Tokarev bullets -- lead core, copper-washed steel jackets. The Ruger is also scary-accurate and flat shooting. It's a PITA to reload though so once you've shot your six rounds, if the bad guy is still coming you are toast.

my first choice would be a 1911 in 45 cal. there are a number out there but the choice narrows if $500 is the limit. you might find something new or used in that price range. the beretta 92 is a good choice but will probably be over $500, the taurus copy, the pt-92 should be well under $500 and i own one and vouch for it. it will fit your needs. i am sure there are others out there but i always hesitate to endorse a gun i have not owned or use.

if you would consider a striker fire pistol i could recomend the taurs pt-145, in 45 cal or taurus pt-709 in 9mm. both of these i own and can recommend from experience. i don't own the 9mm taurus pt-111 but i would be confident in that model too.

Wouldn't an impossibly accurate and reliable gun be ... impossible?

That being said, I'd recommend the blaster Han Solo carried in the original Star Wars. I don't think there's any external hammer, but it technically should be legal in CA.

Used Ruger or Smith and Wesson Revolver in 357 Magnum. No sense messing around with cheap plastic junk when your life's on the line.
