Anyone else have the same problem?

I really need to curb my spending on my firearms hobby, but it seems like every time I say to myself this is the last one for a while, I see one I just have to have.

I think the only solution for me may be to stop browsing gun shops and websites. Usually the shops aren't as bad, because I like the unusual, but freaking gun broker kills me. I have quite a nice collection in my opinion, and I do have money for more, but I don't think running out or money should be the reason I stop.

How do you guys deal with it?

Well, for me I have diverse interest and have to spread my funds out across my varied hobbies. So, you might consider exploring some other activities beyond the shooting sports.

I fish... Seriously, otherwise I'd be shooting all the time.

Also, I can drink a beer while fishing and the only worry I might have, if I bring more than one, is falling out of my chair or sticking myself with a hook.

Other than that I tinker with my Camaro... But that gets expensive too...

I think we might have the same problem;)

If you want to fix it, you could always marry an anti - after doing the math on how much I have spent on guns in the past 2+ years (since we met), she is now requesting (read: demanding) a diamond replacement for her cz engagement ring, that she picked out no less:confused:

If I stop looking, I stop buying. When I'm looking, I'm buying. If I'm looking and if it's a good deal I usually take it. Just picked up a Smith model 66-2, excellent shape. 4" barrel. Dead sexy revolver.

I'm currently trying to work a trade for a pre-64 Win 94 in 32 Special.

I need to stop looking.

So far this year I have purchased three guns. And I have the perfect solution. I never do the math. I fear the math.

I only pay cash. Cash for ammo, cash at the range, cash for pistols. I have an envelope of gun money. If I want a new pistol, I shoot a little less ammo up and stash the extra money in the envelope until I have enough. If I make the purchase on the 'net, I take the currency to the post office and buy a money order to pay for it.

It may not work for everybody.

I was done buying guns for the year 3 guns ago lol. This last one is really the last one, I promiss. I do need to get reloading equipment though :D

It is not just guns..that isn't too big a problem. Mine is reloading.
I am allways looking for a new bullet type, powder, etc.
Oh and then there is that scale and maybe a different press or dies?
hahaha

I like the idea of having a cash fund to use. I seem to get more enjoyment out of saving up to get something also. Don't get me wrong, I'm not keeping food off of the table, I just know I don't need to keep buying stuff like I do.

Since you are collecting guns it helps to have an overall plan and a set of goals for your collection. Then you buy stuff that fits your plan and helps you reach your goals and you do not buy stuff simply because it is "neat." Sooner or later everything will turn out to be "neat." For instance, suppose you want to collect arms that illustrate the genius of John M. Browning. Then you will be in the market for certain Winchester lever actions, Auto-5 shotguns, Model 1911 Gov't autos, etc.,etc., but if you run into a Colt Python you will resist buying it, no matter how neat you think it is, because it does not fit your plan. Also, it will be much easier to sell the idea of investing in a gun collection to mama if she believes you have well-defined, rational goals. Now, on the other hand, if your plan is to have a bit of everything with no focus, well, good luck with that.

No.
Uncontrollable spending habits will cause much harm and many problems, and especially when married and more so with children.
Make up your mind as to your life goals, and develop self-discipline. How many people have credit card debts in 10s of thousands.

Don't let guns rule your life.

Start a new method. If there is something you absolutely Have to Have, look through the collection and see what you can sell/trade for it.
Or like what has been said, branch out to another hobby.

I understand your dilemna. IMHO, there is a reason the most popular web site for guns is called GunBroker. The more you surf for GUNS:); the BROKER you get.

I too enjoy gun ownership and have salted my collection significantly since I stopped road racing my Firebird.

Now racing is an expensive hobby.

I have funded my collection by selling off spares and projects over the last year.

My addiction ... well the super-addiction ... is the unusual. I saw a Draco and had to have it and a TEC 9 looked like fun.

And I've also been trying my hand at trading. It's hard because I'm emotionally attached to many in my collection.

Oh well ...
