Anyone carry/bring more than one gun when going on a trip?

On motor trips I always carry a full-size service sidearm (G17) in my bag, and a subcompact pistol (G26) in my pocket.

KaMaKaZe, that was sort of my question with regard to a rifle ... when I get to where we're going, where does the rifle stay? In the car? In the hotel? It would be safer in the car but I still would like to have all of my guns under my control.

OK Guys, first let me explain - I am paranoid! Part of that comes from 12+ yrs as a cop, part of that comes from an inate sense of self-preservation and family preservation. Now that I have that out of the way, On trips out of state (primarily to TX or Arkansas) I carry: Glock 21 and 2 mags on me (hip)
S&W 642 38 Airweight and reload on me (ankle)
Glock 19 and 2 mags on wife (fanny bag)
H&K G3 .308 and mags in case under second seat of Suburban
2 - Winchester 94 .357 Mag lever actions in case for kids (they use these in Cowboy Action Shooting, so are very comfortable with these)
2 - Ruger Vaquero's .357 Mag revolvers in case for kids (see above)
"just in case" bag of spare ammo, good knives, compasses, etc.
Each of us carries of complete set of "hiking" clothes and boots in our suitcases.

I now, just a little ridiculous - but remember, I admit being a touch paranoid. I have been shot once, shot at a bunch of times, and my work has caused some folks to get a mite peeved at me in the past - so why take the chance?
As far as where do the long guns go at end of trip? Easy, they follow me into hotel/motel and the "Do Not Disturb" sign goes on door.
<y truck has a good alarm, and the way that a 'Burban is built makes it easy to conceal guns under seats.
Be careful - I am

I just went through this thought process in planning for a +5000 mile trip from N. Alabama to Gallup, NM with a week side trip to central Nevada from July 14 - 31, 2000. Here's a synopsis of my loadout:

- G23 in .40
- Sig P226 in 9mm
- BM/CLE Coyote Rifle
- Ruger 10/22 (for jackrabbits)
- +500 rds of .223, +700 rds of .22 LR and 2-3 mags each for the handguns
- Tool chest
- 5 gal gas
- at least 2 gallons clean water + 2 gallons "cooler" water
- Hi lift jack
- Come-along
- First Aid kit
- Cell phone, CB radio + 2 way radios

As it turns out, we had an emergency that directly used my desert experience:

We drove from Gallup, NM to Las Vegas, NV, stopped at several places getting food, water, gas, etc. in LV in 106-108 degrees F. We then drove 100 miles north to Alamo, NV, drove 22 miles off the paved road to Badger Springs campground at the base of Tickaboo Peak, stopped the truck and then tried to restart it. Total battery failure, 22 miles from the paved road, absolutely empty desert, no cell phone coverage and its +105 degrees in the shade.

What did we do? We went to bed! The next morning I checked the battery and truck as well as possible with no results. I even opened up the vents in the "no-maintenance" battery, added water, but it didn't help.

I waited the day out and, around 6 PM started walking the 22 miles out. At about 8 miles, I noticed some antenna's on top of a local mountain and tried the cell phone again. I got through to the Lincoln Co., NV sheriff's office, who sent a deputy. He jumped my truck, we left the camping gear in place and got the heck out of Dodge. After spending the night in one of the two motels in Alamo and getting a new battery the next morning, we went back in, my son and I climbed Tickaboo Peak and took some pictures of Groom Lake Air Force Base (aka Area 51).

So what was the big deal:

I had my 6 year old son and my 74 year old dad with me. There was three generations of my family right there.

Bottom line, Plan, plan and plan and then assume the worse, because in my case, it almost happened.

Regards,

Albin

FUD,

You're driving the Tamiami, huh?

Keep the Kahr on your person. Keep the 659 in a case and put the case in the glovebox. Under the seat is a lousy place to keep a gun.

I'll second the water notion. If you break down everybody will need at LEAST one gallon, maybe more in Florida summer per person.

The trip to Disney took about 5 hours with stops so this trip should take about 6 hours with stops.

FUD,

The turnpike isn't too bad. Lots of traffic so if you do have a problem someone would come along. Just as long as it's the right KIND of someone.

Orlando is my town until next week, when I officially become a Hoosier. I can't wait.

I like having 2 sidearms for myself whenever possible. If your traveling and have the room for something more I would add a handgun that you can shoot well at longer ranges [a scoped 44 mag for instance] or a small, inexpensive, & light rifle...something like a 30-30, 45-70, sks, or mini 14.

On a recent trip to Northern Arizona I brought:

Mossberg 500 Persuader
Norinco SKS
Remington 760 .243
10/22 Target
10/22 standard
Ruger Single Six
Ruger 77/22

Me personally I usually just have my carry gun and some form of rifle in the trunk. Usually my Ishipore so if the car gets stolen I'm not going to cry a river over losing an expensive gun.

As far as arming your anti relatives, they would be far more valuable drawing enemy fire. ( ;) only kidding, no offense intended toward your loved ones even if they are going to vote for Algore)

I always carry my Kimber Ultra Carry plus one spare mag, Surefire flashlight and cell phone. For longer trips I usually add my Kimber Target model in the glove compartment along with 2 or 3 10 shot Ed Brown mags, spare 50 rounds, spare battery for my cell phone and large Mag Light Flashlight. Oh, I also change the spare mag to full size. This way all the mags are compatible with both pistols.
