Anybody here own a Jennings?

OK since the rest of you are coming clean, I guess its my turn. Back around 1959 when I was about 17, my uncle gave me my first pistol. It was an RG-10, it was reliable but cheaper than dirt. I traded it off even up for a .45acp Webbley which I still have. There now that I've got that off of my chest, I hope that I can sleep now...7th

Is it possible that .22 is so soft on guns that Jennings' potmetal actually works well with it?

At the last gun show in Springfield, IL, dad and I saw what I believe was a Raven. It was a tiny .22 and it carried a built-in laser sight. It was $80 including the laser! I probably should have gotten it, judging by this thread . . . :)

Don't bother Walter. He's grumpy and it's chronic.

Gwinny, that's an interesting point about .22s and soft metal.
I wonder if the cheap centerfire guns (Bryco, Lorcin) use the same metal, and how they stand up?

I guess one of the big reasons I won't ever buy a Lorcin .380, a Bryco .32 or a Heritage .45 is that I think they're ugly.
If you like 'em, that's cool, they just don't appeal to my eye.

Interesting see so many good reports about the J-22. I bought my wife one about 10 years ago because she wanted something tiny for those times when she couldn't carry her Diamondback. It hasn't been shot a whole lot in that time, but it's always worked fine.

My father was a Colt/Smith man. As far as I know, he never owned any of the el-cheapo, crappy brands like Jennings. I've decided that what was good enough for Pop was good enough for me. Wish he'd lived long enough to shoot a Glock.

The only people I've seen with Jennings at our local range are people that I hate to see at our local range.

My wife got me a nickled .22 Jennings (the only kind available at the time) for my 21st birthday, and it was *fun* to play with. At the time (about 13 years ago) I was carrying a S&W 439, and the little Jennings was a real fun toy. I eventually traded it in on something or other down the line, and I wish I still had it. It didn't jam (as long as you fed it Stingers), and all the newbies I took out shooting loved the thing. Sure it was potmetal junk, and it was horribly inaccurate. So what! It was real nifty in terms of the fun I had for the money it cost.

Say whaaaaaa!

Just hush . . .

It's politically incorrect to even own one of those.

If you carry one, you're in league with the gangbangers and wanna-be gangstas that kill cops in LA.

Toys are for boys and that one's dangerous.

Ditch it baby!!

PS - those cheap guns like Jennings, Raven, Byco, Phoenix Arms, etc made out of LA in the Valley are exactly the ammunition anti-gun folks need.

Those guns are commonly used in street crimes all over the country because they're cheap and illegal gun dealers can get them dirt cheap and sell them to gangsta's out of the trunk of their cars.

Never - not even as a throw-away piece with your fingerprints on it!

jtduncan:

The last time I read Wright & Rossi's famed report on "crime in America" I'm certain that they stated crooks preferred S&W, Colt, Ruger and other hi-quality handguns.

From whence do you derive your information upon which to make your statement?

JT- your statement sounds like a political stance against cheap(inexpensive) firearms rather than a testimonial on the reliablity of a Jennings.

But I'll play along- do you feel that guns under $100 dollars should be banned because it's easier for poor people to get them? And most violent crimes are done by the poor. Maybe only families with incomes over $50k should have handguns?

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your argument but that's sure how it sounds.

You might have a point, who knows. But the very idea of class discrimination based on income makes me somewhat uneasy.

HAD a Jennings 9mm a few years ago and sold it in order to purchase a Ruger P89. Good decision. The Jennings was a true "jammamatic." But better than a rock, I suppose...

Ok,I admit it I once bought a Bryco 380 shiny, stainless steel, small and purty,it held 7 rounds, but was a single shot if you know what I mean. I don't think it ever fed more than 3 in a row the whole time I had it. It is the only gun I ever have had that I traded off. Since it was a cheap piece of $## I traded it even for a used blue Lorcin 380,man is it ugly, and I think it weighs more than a loaded 1911. It however has been a fine plinking gun(when no on is around to see anyway)If all else fails could get some use as a smallcraft boat anchor...PJ
