Anybody ever shot a .357 in self defense?

Perhaps it was because of the tight quarters of the alley I fired the shot in. Kinda like being in a box. All I know is that I had always worn ear plugs while firing until that night and had no tinnitus. After that night I have had a low whine or ringing in both ears that has not abated.

I was using .357, 145 gr. Silvertips in a Smith 4" 681, when I was involved in a shooting back in 1984. Of the 5 rounds I fired, three were hits. The first round hit the bad guy in the lower right leg and traveled up, knocking him down, but he got back up quickly. The second hit was in the right forearm, traveling just under the skin and out near his elbow, causing him to hit the gound again. The third hit was ceter chest which stopped the fight. Of the rounds recovered from his body, they recovered only fragments of the round that hit his right leg. The round that hit his arm was not recovered. The round that was recovered from his chest did not mushroom, it had flattened on one side, but that was it. It did, however, do the job it was intended for and that was to stop the fight.

There was a video about 4 years ago of a Tx. police man who shot a large bg about 3 times with .357 in the chest. The bullets didn't immediately stop him.
Does anyone else remember seeing this tape. It occurred during a highway traffic stop. They showed it on the news shows quite a bit?
I remember being surprised because up til then I had always thought the .357 so powerful that one shot in chest would be an instant stopper. (it always worked when hunting armadillos!)

Yes. The range was approximately 12 to 15 feet. My carbine was empty. I dropped iy and drew and fired six rounds from a S&W N frame .357, Five rounds hit the man I was shooting at in the chest. The other one struck his submachine gun.
I was firing using point shooting techniques. I was not aware of any muzzle blast and only slightly aware of the recoil. He was knocked back against a wall and did not fall down for a second or two.
My Recon Sgt, said that I "clicke"d the action about a dozen times after the six rounds in the cylinder were gone, but at any rate the N frame and the .357 158 grain KSW loads did the job.

stopping power

Some times ago / shot a young deer ( about 30 pounds ) with a .308.
The bullet grazed the heart took with it a good part of the lungs and left a loot of light blood.
The deer went 40 m.
