Anybody ever dropped a firearm?

I once dropped an SW revolver at the top of the stairs, which were carpeted. It pinwheeled down the stairs, bouncing on the barrel and the hammer in alternation.

That's one scary thing to see, even with one's knowledge of safeties. From then on,
when I negotiate stairs, the gun is secured.

Yes.

I hadn't even owned my Witness PS 9x19 for a month and I had taken it off my belt (still in holster) and placed it in the pocket of the door of my girlfriend's truck. When I had opened my door to get out, it fell out and landed on the asphault (more than a two foot drop) with a large clank. I just sat there in my seat and I thought I was going to cry. My girlfriend was looking at me from the other side of the truck sayin' "Whats wrong -- whats wrong??" I was too imbarrased to say "I dropped my gun." I felt the instant pain in my stomach like someone had just sucker-punched me. I was afraid to even pick it up an examine what damage I had done. So, after about three minutes.. I fetched it off the ground and looked it over. After a tap-tap-tap-tap with a brass hammer and a small bit of blueing, it was returned to a "finished" condition. The only thing I had managed to do to it was scratch (and shave a little bit of metal) of the rear sight rail. Nothing to terribly bad, but I had to re-adjust it the next visit to the range. Upon recalling the amount of fear from dropping a gun (not accidental discharge -- as much as a dink in my pride) I've never done it since.

More than once but only my Colt DS. It popped out of one of those shoulder holsters with the elastic retention. I was doing about 35 mph on my bike and it hit my leg and then hit the pavement. Ever see a full dress Hog stop on a dime?
I`ve had the gun 25 years and still carry and shoot it regularly.
When I was an instructor we had cops come in all the time with S&W 36`s with broken off hammer spurs. We didn`t put new hammers on, just filed the old one smooth.

Good Evening All-

Similar to Dinosaur, I had a heavy winter jacket release the thumbreak on a shoulder holster.

My H&K P7M10 skittered through the jacket and even though I was standing on nice, soft, grass, I didn't want any chance of scratches. Recalling my high school and college soccer skills, I simply put out my foot and "cushioned" the impact.

No scratches, no marks, no nothing. For cooler weather or active conditions, I now have a bit more faith in a vertical shoulder holster as opposed to a horizontal holster!

about made myself cry the other day.
had just taken down and totaly cleaned my tarus pt92. it was cleaner than when i bought it i think. loaded up the clip, didnt chamber a round, and put two spare loaded clips in my pocket.
got holstered gun on and went out to go get it dirty again.
i was at my customary place about a quarter mile from the house had finished off first clip, put gun it holster took one step and, CLANK, gun fell out. looked down with horror and saw my beautiful gun laying on the ground. picked it up and saw the scratch on the rosewood grip, right side, and about dropped it again.
the seam had ripped out on my cheap allen holster.
no damage to gun only to one grip.
sewed up holster new grip on the way. still makes me feel sick to talk about it.
second time i have ever dropped a gun, the other one was a bb gun when i was about 9.

Hard Case, I did almost the exact same thing. I was cleaning my Sig that I had bought the day before and had just finished up and was reassembling it when there was a knock at the door. It was one of my friends. He came in and as we were talking I decided to hit the slide release so I could function test the weapon. Next thing I know, there is a loud thud and the slide is on the table in front of me. I start cussin' and my friend starts laughing. No harm done, though...

I will admit that I have, on two occasions, accidentally dropped a gun, fortunately with no loud noises! Also, i have, as a way of safety check, done an ABUSIVE deliberate drop on two different carry-guns!. Before I get flamed, let me say that the surface condition on both is/was pitiful ( mechanical condition: excellent!) I chambered an empty primed case and, in condition zero ( cocked and unlocked ) dropped each from shoulder height to a linoleum floor with a slight forward motion and no attempt to control orientation. on one gun ( Colt's combat commander ) I got 2 drops to half-cock and no pop. On the other ( Llama .380 1911 mini-clone) I got 3 drops to half-cock and no pop. Yes, I know that this constitutes severe physical abuse ( on drop # 7 the manual safety lever broke off of its shaft on the Colt and had to be replaced ) but now, with these 2, I have an unusual degree of confidence that they are unlikely to discharge accidentally! Their reliability remains at 100% with proper feeding, and I will NEVER get rid of either one!

paranoia is an appropriate feeling when THEY actually are out to get you!
