I loves my single-action sixguns!

Got a 4 5/8" Bisley Vaquero in .44 Mag and a 4 5/8" Super Single Six in .32 H&R Mag. Next one to come home (on layaway @ work) is an Old Model Bearcat. :)

I see there alot of Ruger fans out there ... besides my self. I've installed a free spin paul in my SBH so I don't have the problem of missing a cylinder when loading up. Usually the cylinder will only spin one direction, the free spin paul allows it to spin either direction. Easy fit, drops right in.
Here's where to get one--->Power Custom

John22,
Based on your comments about the Ruger .44-40 .429"/.425" on the first series, I did a big ol' HANGFIRE on that Vaquero I was buying.
Anybody know if they still practice this mismatch of barrel vs cylinder on the currant models?
Thanks for the "heads up," John22!
I'm almost willing to work with an orphan caliber, but not if it's going to involve expensive gunsmithing to correct a factory design/execution fault!

So OK then,
Does shooting .38 specials in a .357 Mag mess up the cylinder so .357 is compromised?
Heard different opinions on this.

Aha,
Finally, the definitive answer, after all these years.

Thank you, gentlemen.

Still wondering about the Ruger Vaquero in .44-40 though.

Unfired for $375 seems like an excellent deal to me, but not if I find -after slugging the barrel- that Ruger is still using .44 mag barrels @ .429", with .425" cylinders.
Anyone know if this is still their practice, or just early models?
Tks,

The miss match cylinder/barrel problem was fixed according to Ruger... I had returned mine to the factory, they said they would open the cylinders up to my specs at no charge. It would have cost me $75 to have a good Gunsmith do it. Any how ... Eight weeks later and after a couple of calls, my revolver came back with a new cylinder. As it turned out they had taken one off the line that was also undersized, fit it to my gun and sent it back to me. With out re-slugging the gun I headded out to the range for a day of shooting ... SAME PROBLEM. I cut the day short and went straight home, Slugged the cylinder(with .425 results), and then proceeded to phone Ruger and ream several people out over this matter. They wanted me to send it back to them (their nickle) so they could fix it again. I was pissed. I used it as trade bait.
It took me a while to cool down enough to buy another Ruger product. Ruger's are still the best for your buck, I just won't have the factory do any repairs(my personal conviction).

Somewhere along the line,

I'd like to get a 5.5" Bisley Vaquero and have adjustables put on it. Course, if they offered the regular Bisley in that length, I could put up with that silly unfluted cylinder and the engraving.:D

I love Ruger Stainless Sheriff's models. I currently own only 2
KBNV-453-SI with Ivory grips
KBNVBH-453 with black micarta birdhead grips

Hope to add another soon !!!!!!!:D

If I start talking about the collection of 1st Generation Colts I once had we will all get depressed, so...

Currently residing in the safe are a slightly customized Blackhawk (Flattop) 44mag. It has a 4 5/8" barrel, steel ejector rod housing, steel grip frame, hand made walnut grips (the guy who made them fitted them perfectly to the frame, and a bead-blast and blue finish. Shoots 250g cast bullets backed by 19g 4227 and a Mag primer (velocity is right at 1200 fps) into one ragged hole at 25 yards if I'm having a good day.

Second is a 45 Colt Vaquero. It has a Super Blackhawk hammer (I'm told this is not legal in SASS) and a Belt Mountain cylinder pin. Had the .451" chamber mouths reamed to .454". It shoots .454" 250g flat points about as well as the 44 Flattop does .430" SWCs. I duplicate the performance of my original black powder loads in the Vaquero with 11g HS-6. The 250g comes out of the 4 5/8" barrel at an average 865 fps.

And the 1st generations... No! Don't go there!

Whoops: forgot about a NAA 1" 22lr and a Freedom Arms 13/4" 22lr. But I guess those are the ones you put in you're pocket and forget about.
