Any rifle ranges within 1 hr of Naperville Illinois.

Grey I'm with you in the (815).

Buffalo Rock Shooting Range Is about an hour or slightly more from you on I-80. It has a really fun "pit" to free shoot into, and several other ranges (check their site). Although its temporarily closed for now.

There is a JR Shooting Sports in Aurora.. only an indoor pistol range.

There is the Aurora Sportsman Club in Waterman IL.

There is the Illinois State Rifle Association in Bonville.

That's all I can think of now.

Some of my cousins lived on Cross Street in Downers Grove. I think they lived there from the mid 60s until around the mid 80s.

I grew up in Downers Grove, graduated from DGHS before there was a South and North campus. Left there in 1970 for many reasons. Seeing the gunowners ID card coming along was one of them.
My high school class is having it's 55th anniversary in August. I won't be going mostly because I hate the traffic and seeing the changes.
Life is definitely better in the south.

Rifleman1776 my 40th reunion is in '15, so you have a few years on me but I'm glad to see the southern states have been good to you.

Just because Article II will allow you to shoot rifles on their indoor range, does not mean you should. I went to AII once and was placed in a room with no separate shooting stalls or motorized target retrievers. All they had were hooks from the ceiling and several rickety card tables to shoot from. Someone next to me was shooting a .270 bolt action not four feet from me on a 20 yard indoor range with no sound baffles. Not fun.

Buffalo Rock was the range i went to all the time. The DNR is one of the most worthless agencies around. They are saying projectiles are leaving the park but they have no evidence. So they shut down the park til buffalo rock can prove otherwise. This is how the system works here in the land of Jim Ryan and Blago - guilty til proven inocent. Im in search of a range as well. There are a couple hoity toity private clubs in my area that I have no interest in being a part of.

The popularity of firearms and shooting sports have increased alot the last few years. Last season of the buffalo rock park was packed every single day. Im mean lines at the pistol range. The shotgun and rifle ranges were slammed too. All of a sudden the anti-gun DNR is concerned. These guys are wound so tight theyre rediculous.

IL residents - call your state reps and help save the Buffalo Rock Shooting Park!

Gun World = Article II
I was just there a few weeks ago though and I didn't see any ranges there that didn't have stalls in them.

For indoor to just test out your rifles, Maxon Shooters in Des Plaines ought to do the trick. For outdoor, the closest to me (Chicago) is Kankakee. I haven't been there yet, but my brother and I have the applications for membership. Does anyone know if the Kankakee range is part of CMP? That's what I really want in an outdoor range (Garand on the short list, yes please).

Range

From Oak Lawn here really glad I left the **** hole in 1966. I remember an indoor range about 45 minutes from our house but would guess with your screwed up gun laws it probably closed it's doors long ago. God I love AZ.

Greysmoke,

I second the Aurora Sportsmansclub option.

If you want to go a tad further west than Waterman, there's some kind of sportsmans club across the street from me in Paw Paw, I hear them shooting but I nbever went over there because we have enough land to just shoot in the yard, lol.

The ISRA range is extremely nice. They've made quite a few changes over the last 5 years, and really updated the place.

I just rejoined after a 4-5 year hiatus, and was pleasantly surprised. They have long-range plans to make the 300 yard range into a 600 yard range, too. That would be great if they're able to do it.

There is also an archery range, and an informal trap area for shotgunners. In addition to those, there is a benchrest range with concrete benches that are rock-solid. A 100 meter range is next to that one. And then there is the High Power range, which has 200 and 300 yard firing points.

There are warming/cooling shacks depending on the weather, and bathroom facilities in several places.

I'm not sure if it's within an hour of Naperville, but it's probably close to that.

May 19th, next Saturday, they're having a "Savage Day" at the range. You could show up and check it out for free, and maybe shoot some neat Savage rifles as well.
