Any redemption for the Beretta?

I've never had a good experience with a Beretta, however there are many people who own them, which is why I'm posting this thread. I've only fired three magazines through two different Beretta 9mm's, but in that brief period, I had 5 jams and 7 failures to feed. Both guns were "clean"(as far as I knew. The owners had cleaned them beforehand, however to what extent I don't know) and using factory mags. Ammunition was factory loaded ball. I hate to hate a gun, so let me know if I'm just mistaken or what.

Berettas.

:D Well, on a positive note, a large contingent of posters here will attest that Beretta "fixed" that little slide problem they had on the military 92s. All slides are now guaranteed to stay on their frames. They even stamped it right there on the gun - where it says 92 FS.

FS = "fixed slide." :D

I have about 3000 rounds through mine in the last 6 months, not a single jam that wasn't an I.D. Ten-T error. Fed everything from CCI Blazer, American Eagle, Winchester White Box and dookie. ;)

I've had several berettas over the years and have never had a problem with any of them that I could attribute to the firearms. What few problems I have had were ammo related.

If you had 12 different malfunctions from just three magazines run through two pistols, I'd say something is SERIOUSLY wrong. You can complain about Berettas for a lot of things, but certainly not regarding reliability. I have owned three, and in the process of firing at least 5,000 rounds I have NEVER had one malfunction.

Wow. I own Glocks, SIGs, and Berettas. All are reliable guns. But my Berettas are the guns I trust the most for reliability. Which Beretta models are causing so much trouble?

Could it be that Beretta 92's are sensitive to the way that they are held? I went to a shooting range and tried out their 92. It jammed every few rounds on me (took me forever to go through 150 rounds!). However, the range owner came by and dumped a magazine rapid fire with no jams.

I don't think I was limpwristing it - I had shot pistols before (though not extensively) I shot that one. And when I went to Field Training and shot the M9, I didn't have a single jam.

I've always heard that the Beretta 92 series was known for its reliability, especially concerning failure to feed and jams.
Perhaps something with the magazines?
My Beretta has over 10,000 rounds through it without a glitch.

I've shot many, many, many, many (you get the idea ;) ) rounds through both of my Italian 92's. The only problem I ever experience is that I run out of ammo long before I get tired of shooting it.

My beef with Beretta has nothing to do with the guns. I just don't like the company, for reasons way to long to get into here, That is why I sold the 3 that I owned and have never looked back, I have absolutely no use for anything with the name Beretta, or Bianchi on the side.

I refuse to do business with a company that doesn't stand behind a product.

I'm a relatively new Beretta 92 owner, but I sure couldn't call the gun unreliable! I bought it used, principally because it came with six pre-ban factory magazines, and it's been 100% reliable so far. I've fired a variety of 9mm ammo through the gun, and all it's ever done is put them on target and chuck the brass, just like it's supposed to! If you've had that much trouble with the gun, I have to believe there's something seriously wrong with the gun or the magazines.

I had a 92FS that I sold because I did not like it's ergonomics. However, it fired everything I fed through it. I even had some very funky handloads that fed without a hiccup. I am not a big Beretta fan, but it will run under pretty nasty conditions.

My stainless Italian Beretta was my first gun. I've had 2 FTF's with it, both with old Norinco ammo. I examined both rounds, and both had a nice deep hole where the firing pin struck it. Obviously ammo failure, not the gun.

Other than that, it feeds everything. I got a bad batch of Sellior and Bellot ammo that kept jamming my Walther P99 and my buddy's Glock 17 every 2-3 rounds. The Beretta fed it without a hitch. I would say that the Beretta is the most reliable semi-auto handgun made.

The slide release and mag release have a little bit of tarnished color to them (hasn't gotten worse in the last few years), and I had to adjust the rear sight, as it was shooting to the side (don't remember which). Other than that, the gun has been flawless.

I'll grant you I am kind of new to this, but shooting only factory loads, about 1,000, I have never had a jam of FTF. I really like mine, the first pistol I have ever owned.

Can't wait for CCW in Missouri !!! But it will be a long one I am afraid.

I bought my 92FS because I was applying to a local police auxiliary and this was the dept. issued weapon. Not the only reason, but the primary. I was later disqualified because of a physical problem, so I haven't shot it that much. With about 500 rounds through it, I've never had a jam. And I put some pretty crappy reloads through it. My first gun was a Taurus PT92 which had over 8000 rounds through it with no trouble when I traded it for something I liked better. True, Taurus is no Beretta, but it is a Beretta copy. I have a Vertec on my aquire list right now. I'll get a stainless one soon.

My experience with Beretta handguns has been favorable. They need a lot of improvement in customer service, though.

some things to check

Mistaken.

 You said 3 mags through 2 different Berettas -

and had 12 (out of a potential 30 / 45 rounds). Even Gl*cks don't malfunction that much :p

If this is a serious post, did you actually verify the maintenance condition of the pistols ?

specifically check to see that the slide rails are well oiled.

If it was factory ammo, what kind ?
Low powered ammo could do this, like low power hand loads.
FT feeds are probably the magazines. Were they actually 9mm mags - the .40 mags have a different follower.

I suggest having a competent gunsmith look at them, magazines & all. sounds very fishy...

HTH

6k rounds through my 92FS with ZERO malfunctions of any kind. Not the most accurate auto I own, but it's the only auto I'd take to a gunfight because of it's absolute reliability.

I have a 92FS, a 92 Centurion, and a 96D. The only malfunction I have ever had with any of them was caused by an Asian Military mag. The lips were too wide, and rounds would stovepipe tip-up when feeding. Bent the lips in, and no problem since.

There is something wrong with this picture, and the Berettas are at the bottom of the list of suspects. Higher on the list are operator error (including improper maintenance and/or repair), ammo, and mags. Also, the original poster failed to mention whether the owners of those guns ever had trouble with them.

I've never had a problem with my Beretta that wasn't clearly related to the ammo. This includes 10,000 rounds of cheap ammo, handloads, and crappy $12.00 magazines.

The Beretta 92 Series is probably among the top five most reliable handguns out there. I'd look at the owner's maintenance of the weapon: If the gun is too dry, that can cause problems (a buddy of mine did that once...ran it bone dry. A little oil on the rails solved the problem.) or there may be a problem with the mags. Hard to say if it's not your weapon and can't vouch for the history...
