But for some reason, unknown to me, Bau[sc]h & Lomb disappeared from the rifle scope market. Building a mount like that isn't going to sell many scopes.

The mounts are still available from a few companies that bought the remaining inventory when B&L discontinued the line.

And, B&L didn't get out of the rifle scope market. They just decided to use someone else's name in the U.S.
Today, the B&L scopes that are still made wear a different name.....
