any other die-hard revolver fans out there?(my recent epiphany)

For the times that you need to carry a gun in an unusual place without a holster or other means of covering the trigger guard, a nice DAO revolver really hits the spot, so to speak.

Ok, color me a S&W wheelgun nut, too. I just finished rebuilding a pre-war M1905 M&P in .38-200 that had nothing to offer but a good frame. Now it's a PPC/Action pistol, Apex lugged and slabbed heavy barrel, Aristocrat rib, ProPoint sight, S&W Model 10 cylinder and crane, trigger job, chamfered cylinders, high thumb cylinder release, etc. It's a blast, especially on the falling steel targets, and also looks good next to it's M19 and M36 stablemates in my safe. Have a looksie:

artech - you are right on tack. I won't trade my SIG 220 or my CZ 85 or Browning HP (and have had a number of 1911's come and go) but for pure enjoyment - my single actions - Ruger in 45 and 357 and my really big guns, a S&W 629 44 mag and a Raging Bull 454 Casull... down to the beautifully built NA 22 LR mini- revolver, the wheelguns are favorites. Also, as a nightable 'primary' i alternate between the P220 and - a Ruger GP-100. Browsing through the old literature -there actually was a time when people truly believed that any problem that couldn't be solved within six shots was beyond reasonable solution anyway. Way back (not really so long ago really) when IPSC was starting up and actually 'practical' stages were designed with this in mind. Many of us competed with revolvers... ah well

This wheelgun problem can get even worse. Some
time ago (about a year) I bought a S&W Model 16-the .32 H&R Magnum with full underlug.Since then it is almost all I shoot,every week without fail.Why?
The accuracy is amazing at 50yds and unbelieveable at 25.Besides that, the trigger is smoother than any of my other (11) handguns,it is a little heavier than my .38 K Frames, the barrel hole is smaller. I have several loads for the magnum case but I find 3gr of W231 driving a 115gr RNFP is ideal for distances out to 50 yards. Also, recoil is negligible, not that it matters too much but good for fast reaquisition of sight picture.
Since it is so easy to shoot I have had time to consider my form while shooting, and to pay attention to all the basics.Stance, sight picture, patience etc.etc.
I highly recommend that given the chance you shoot one---but beware, you'll wan't to buy it.

I just love the Smiths, j,k,l, and n frames. Love them all. I have shot thousands and thousands of rounds through Power Custom revolvers, stock Smiths, and even a couple of Pythons. Made Master class in PPC, Top 20 in the National Shooter's League, and Master in NRA Action Pistol in the early days. All with a wheel gun.

About four months ago I made a committment to learning how to shoot the 1911 style pistols fast and accurately. Been shooting USPSA and IDPA with my full size 1911. I almost feel like I have mis-spent my youth fooling around with revolvers. Yeah, I love a Smith, but rocking and rolling with a .45 is where it is at. Even thinking of buying a SV Edge from awesome Dawson. Heck, I would rather shoot C class in USPSA than Master in that boring old PPC.

I still love them wheel guns, but they just don't compare to a great auto in the hands of a real pistolero. You can have my Power Custom Revolvers, but don't even think about taking my Les Baer or Springfield, or Rock River...

YES, YES, YES
70% of my handguns are revolvers. All my center fire autos are 1911s or other SA Autos in .45ACP. I acknowledge that the 1911 or any well-done SA Auto is a superior design for a fighting handgun (by a little bit) but revolvers are more FUN.
As Old_Yout pointed out, you can dry fire a revolver exactly as you live fire it, something few autos offer. Revolvers as a group are more accurate out of the box, they are more easily chambered for powerful cartridges, and they are much less expensive than autos of comparable quality – especially with the current fads driving the prices of good used revolvers down. And they are FUN. :)
Firearms that are enjoyed get handled, dry fired, used. Equipment won’t make up for lack of skill, and enjoying using a gun for practice and training encourages use.
Oh, and revolvers are FUN. :)

P.S. – I think that one of the many reasons that so many of us are disgusted by S&W’s cowardly betrayal of our civil rights is that their revolvers are so much FUN :D and now we cannot in good conscience buy any more new ones.

One more advantage to revolvers is that it makes it really easy to save your brass. I have been saving all mine and plan to start reloading for .357/.38 soon!

mmm If someone made a 5 shot .45acp snubby I'd buy it. I love my colt revolver, but its a little old and LARGE for colncealed carry.

would scare the living guano out of anyone you pulled it on though. ;)

I have and love 'em both. But my wife wouldn't have a pistol. "They jam!" so she claims. She is a very good shot with her revolvers, carries a Mdl. 36 3" heavy barrel and extra ammo, and so I don't worry about her safety.

The best gun in the world is the one you have with you when things "go south" on you.

FWIW. J.B.

I have more than my share of pistols but I have more revolvers. Unlike most guys here I like Colt revolvers more than $&# revolvers. My three favorite revolvers are my Colt Python, Diamondback and Dick Special. Hard to explain but I shoot better in DA with Colt trigger system.

The Troopers have much better pay. I have a confession to make I own 3 revolvers. One 38 airweight, one converted redhawk thats a 5 shot 45 colt and one colt coyboy. Revolvers are still fun I like shooting them too. But if my life is on the line let me grab my glock.

Dr. Rob seems like someone told me that you can shoot .45 ACP in a .45 Colt chambered weapon.

I love revolvers too but would NEVER trade them for a S&W due to their recent stance. I know, I know they might have been used or whatever but S&W is plumetting and anything I can do to help those lousy British get out of my country the better.

They are falling fast and I think it is just great!

What will you do when we start shooting laser weapons and you don't even have any semis left? :) Go back to a flint knife?

Have both autos & revolvers both old & newish ( mostly older ).Like both. Enjoy both. if I had to stay with one handgun forever, it would be my mod 19 with 5&7/8" barrel and patridge sights ( production overrun form some police contract, I assume ).It will/has hit whatever I have ever had to hit! I will, however, admit that it is NOT very good for ccw!

paranoia is a good thing to have when they actually are out to get You!

for personal defense, the best semi-autos are superior to the best revolvers. for defense in the woods, revolvers come in bigger calibres. for aesthetics and pleasure of ownership, you can't beat a great revolver.

The other day at the gravel pit some guy was shooting his new Glock 22. We were shooting at a 9" pie plate from about 20 yds. After five shots hadn't hit the box the plate was stapled to, I ribbed him bad by asking if he was sure he had loaded ball ammo.

I have plenty of semi autos, expensive stuff too. My current favorite though is the USED Mod. 10 S&W in 38 Spec. that I picked up. It's the "+P" configuration -- heavy 4" barrel on a K Frame. It's the same gun as the Mod. 19 .357 only a shorter chamber. Fixed sights, raised rib. This one's been Magna Ported, and the trigger has been worked to about three lbs single action. Large Pachmayr Presentation Grips. Great balance, points well and shoots smooth.

I think this gun used to be an IPSC rig. Holster wear on the tip of the barrel and around the end of the cylinder -- and the porting, trigger job.

Anyway, single action, six shots at 20 yds offhand. Weaver stance, slow fire but sustained fire. Six shots in a 3 1/2" group in the "middle of the pie." Put the sights on the hole in the target and that's where the next shot hits.

Because this is a "magnum" frame, I load the 38 Spec. cases to light magnum pressures. Fully supported chamber, you can shoot the cases until they split. And no need to search for them on the ground.
