any opinion on Mossber shotguns?

Hey guys, a couple of months ago I purchased a Mossberg 500 12 gauge with 2 barrels, new in the box for $200.:D Compared to the price on the Remington with one barrel, $300, I bought the Mossberg. I'm happy with it so far, I've got the 18" barrel on it for home defense, and its a shooter. Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with Mossberg, good or bad.

I've had a Mossberg 500a for around 7 years. Never 1 complaint in that time, well, except for the briuses from shooting it. I got an 18 inch barrel, double pistol grips. never let me down. The first time I took it apart I made the mistake of cocking it and all the parts flew out. That was an interesting couple of hours messing around trying to put it back together. And it still works. I oil her up every once in a while. Lots of accessories are avaliable for it. Good choice.

I've had mine for around 6 months now and have shot around 400+ shells through it and never had a single problem. If your into the sort of thing i'd recommend getting a Knoxx
stock as well. Helps tons to reduce recoil and they look cool:)

are u sure u got all that for 200 bucks or did u steal it :p yea mossberg is a f*ckin good gun ive got an 835. everything about it is just perfect

I've got a 9200. So far it's been a good gun. Came with a bird barrel on it and I can't find a rifled barrel for slugs anywhere. That's my only issue with it.

I, too, have a Mossberg 500. Have had it for many years and have not had a single issue with it. Goes bang every time I pull the trigger. It's my primary home-defense weapon, loaded with 00 buckshot.

Rest assured, you got a good gun. :)

I think two of the best value long guns out there are mossberg shotguns and savage rifles. One thing to keep an eye on for the 500 is the safety, it is plastic and I have heard of them cracking after a while. they do have after market metal for sale. One neat thing about the 500 is they have 50 cal. black powder barrels for it if you deer hunt (approx. $90) good luck!

Hey guys, glad to hear the positive input on the mossberg. I really did buy it new in box with 2 barrels for $200. Big 5 sporting goods here in my town was clearing them out for $199, too good to pass up!:D

It Is what it is!

Well, hey, it Is What it is!
It's a Mossy. It ain't a Remmy.
It ain't a Winchester or Browning.
I have a couple.
I also have a couple Remingtons.

If you are happy with it.........It's your dollar.
If you want something prettier, it'll cost you more.
I'm happy with all my guns.
Have Fun.

I JUST SUBMITTED THIS SAME REPLY TO "BUZZARD"
I Had A Mossberg 500 And Used The Hell Out Of It For 12 Years. Never Had 1 Single Problem. In My Opinion For An Inexpensive Shotgun You Can't Beat It. Also When I Sold It Well Used I Got Only $50 Less Than I Payed For It Brand New. I Had A Great Time Using It To Hunt And To Clear Out Small Trees And Brush For Camp Sites. :d (quicker And More Fun Than A Chain Saw)

I've been using mine 26 years with no complaints. The wood on the newer ones isn't as nice as the older ones, but you can't have everything. The price over the last 26 years has only went up about $30-$50 depending on where you shop. I paid $179 for mine with a 26" barrel and the 24" slugster barrel in 1980.

I'm a BIG Remington 870 fan, had a trap gun that I ran a little over 60,000 rounds thru. I've tried other shotguns and never found another pump gun I'd own EXCEPT a Mossy 500. I think they're great guns. Hell, I owned one for a while and recently saw one at the gun show that I have to buy as soon as the show comes around again (unless I can get it locally)...the 6 round Persuader with that wicked scull-cracker thing on the end of the barrel !!

I have two Mossberg 500 shotguns, one is a 16ga. w/c-lect choke that I bought 38 years ago and never had a problem with and I used it for everything from small game to whitetail deer. Also bought a 12ga. w/two barrels (slug barrel & shot barrel) that I used for a few years but never liked as much as my 16ga. What I liked most about the Mossberg was the location of the safety and how quiet it operated. The price was right and the gun was accurate as any other. Before I purchased the Mossberg in 1968 I owned a Ithaca Deerslayer, what a piece of junk that was!

I've had my Mossy 500A since '97 its been great! I keep it loaded with 8 #4 buck shells and have 00buck on the sidesaddle

Looks like the consensus is that Mossberg builds a good gun, glad to hear it. :D I'm very happy for the money I spent. I keep mine loaded with #1 buckshot for home defense, 00 buck is in the side saddle.:)

Mossberg 500/590s

I have owned several, and maintain several for my police dept. I can carry any (reasonable) 12 ga shotgun I want on duty....and I decided to stick with my mossbergs. I own a 20 inch 500 and an 18.5 inch 590A1 and love em both. The only parts I have had to change for the dept guns were two of the plastic safties, on probably 15-18 year old guns with the checkered plastic safties.
