Any one else going rimfire for awhile?

As ammo is not the cheapest commodity these days I have
been thinking of going to rimfire for my next several range
trips. Anyone else cutting back on the expensive stuff?

I've been a big rimfire fan my whole life (hence my moniker) so no transition necessary. I also own and fire lots of centerfires as well.

I have for the most part been only shooting Rimfire for about the last 6 months or so. I will bring the big boys out every once and a while.

Lately the only two guns I have been shooting at the range are a walther p22 and a henry lever action in .22lr. Its the difference between shooting for 45 minutes vs a couple hours with the 22's, and then still having enough ammo for the next day.

Bought a used Beretta Neos a little while back just to save money on ammo. Fun plinker and good practice with cheap gun and cheap ammo. Pays for itself in 1K rounds or less.

I have always loved the model 17 S&W K-22 with a 6" bbl. I've had a few come and go and now have the 10 shot version. I don't recall the model # and I'm at work so I can't check. Has a full underlug and is a pleasure to shoot. I don't always bring it when I go to the range but do about half the time. Rimfires are fun.

A few years ago when I was teaching myself how to shoot I went through thousands of rounds of .22 lr. I shot a Smith & Wesson 617 innumerable times teaching myself how to shoot double action accurately and quickly. I still have that gun and I occasionally take it to the range. It's always a joy to shoot even though I've moved on to bigger, if not necessarily better, things.

I never go to the range without taking at least one .22 rifle or handgun along. I'll almost always shoot at least 4 times as many rounds with the rimfires as I do with the center fires.

I shoot my .22's more than the other guns, mainly because of ammo price and the neighbor lady likes the pop better than the big bang:D

Hadn't really thought about it.......but seven of my last ten gun purchases have been .22's.....guess I've been going that direction but didn't realize it.

Handload. Some people, still, are rich enough to leave .45ACP brass lying around.

These days, yeah, a .22 usually comes along. Range trips aren't as frequent as I'd like.

Yes, I started shooting serious numbers of .22LR about two years ago. I still take a .22LR to the range every time I go.
Yes, I reload, and enjoy shooting .45 acp, .357/.41 Mag, .45LC, etc.

These days primers cost about .035 cents each, and powder costs money...
22LR rounds cost about .027 each (although a lot of the ones I own were bought at about 1/2 that price, I tend to look at replacement cost)...so I'm not sure how "rimfire is somewhat pointless in my case."

To each his own.

rimfire

Rimfires are enjoyable to shoot and give the opportunity to practice good shooting technique for negligible cost. I almost always shoot some rimfire at every range session, although I also shoot some centerfire as well. There are a number of very fine rimfire firearms available at relatively low cost that will give a lot of range time pleasure for less than the cost of a movie. I am not convinced that reloading CF would be cheaper than shooting RF if you add up the cost of powder, bullets, primers, and the time invested in doing the reloading. However, if reloading is one's hobby, those considerations may not be relevant.

I got back into rimfire for a different reason. I had become so obsessed with load devolpment and chasing the perfect long range group that I stopped having fun. A brick of 22LR and a handfull of golfballs brought the fun of shooting back.

I didn't get serious about rim fire till the price of center fire got out of hand....
And i haven't stopped since.....Its about as much fun as one can have with
their clothes on.

So every chance i get i buy all the .22 rounds i can get my hands on.....
So far i have accumulated approx. 7k of the little buggers....But i have to share with my daughter as its her rifle.
