Any lever action fans out there?

I bought a used Glenfield 30-30 last year, finally got a scope on it and took it to the range. I was very impressed, I've never taken these type of guns seriously, but this thing shoots. Stats are, Glenfield (Marlin) 30 A, 20 in. barrel (I think? maybe 18, I forget), old weaver 4 x with duplex, hornady 160 gr. leverevolution factory ammo. The range is a public one, pretty nice but not real comfortable. Also, I don't have a sandbag so I was using a pillow as a rest. I shot 3 rd. groups, one group at fifty and one at 100 yrds. on this target. I still need to do a little fine tuning but initially I'm very happy.

Also a bad picture of the gun. It's actually in very good shape for it's age. Pics were taken with my cell phone, so they aren't real good.

I hope these links work, I've never tried photobucket before.

Nice rifle and good shooting. The marlins shoot very well. better than I expected when i bought my first one. I now have 5 Marlin leverguns.

I have 1 Marlin and one Winchester. The model 94 is a centennial edition, 1894-1994. Engraved with a gold inlay. Will be a safe queen until my son is old enough to shoot. Here is the marlin first time I took it out. Doe 130 yard head shot.

I love all my leverguns but my Marlins go hunting and my Winchesters stay home. Looks like you have one that needs to go hunting, too.

I've got one Marlin and two Winchesters. One Winchester is dedicated solely to cast bullets and one is dedicated solely to jacketed bullets. The Marlin is an 1894 in .357, a darn handy thick woods rifle.

For pure accuracy, the bolt action is the way to go but lever actions are better than they usually get credit for and very handy in the woods. I have 2 lever actions, a Winchester 94 in 357 magnum that shoots moa or better with whatever I feed it and a Marlin 1895G in 45-70 that is a consistent .5 moa rifle with Remington bulk bullets.

I have four. A Winchester 92 clone in 44-40, a Winchester 94 in 30-30, a Henry Golden Boy .22 and an original Winchester 1887 12 gauge.

You have a very nice rifle, and your grouping is excelent. Your rifle would perform very well on deer out to 150 yards with a dead on hold with the way you have it set. Good luck

I've had a few big-name bolt guns that wouldn't keep up with my Marlin lever guns in the accuracy department. Lever guns don't seem to be as fussy about ammo as my bolt guns often are. Just my observations, I know a bolt gun is the more accurate platform but my Marlins don't seem to care for conventional wisdom.

I zeroed sights to hit POA at 25 yards and "fine tuned" it to hit 2" above POA at 100 yards. Not bench rest shooting but "fist rest" on range table (paired shots - single ones were elbow rest on table) and is under one MOA.

The myth of bolt action guns being more accurate than anything else never seems to die and I'm not sure why when there are many other actions - such a lever guns and semi-autos as shot at Camp Perry that are as accurate as one can get.

I'll take any chance I can get to show off my 99. She needs a new scope, but I'm thinking I might have to chase elk with it this year. Since I drew that second choice cow elk tag last month!

Hey - how can you talk about lever guns without pictures -

It'd be like trying to describe something with your hands in your pockets -

:D

Yep, I'm pretty sure I like pretty much all lever guns. I have yet to see one that I didn't like even a little.:)

I'm a Marlin man 100%. I have a couple, but the 30TK in 30-30 is my favorite. Second favorite is my 336C for 1981 in 35 Rem.
