Any guys carry a Lady Smith?

Saw the S&W M36LS today - beautiful gun! These seem to cost more than the 642/442 Centennials right now. I like the 'heft' of the steel frame, and at 20 oz I bet it'd be pretty well behaved firing +P ammo compared to an Airweight.

Seems heavy for pocket carry. But maybe worth the trade-off for shootability?

Well, I'm a lady but I got the gun because of the heft. I had a 442 and really didn't like the recoil on that gun so I sold it. The only thing I'm looking to change on the LS though are the grips - too small even for my hands. :)

A 'Lady's gun?' - Come on - you've got to be joking! What full-on macho dude would ever admit to that? Not me, that's for sure. I'd rather eat worms.

Unless it's due to significant self-esteem issues, why would anyone try to impress others or really care what they’d think about your gun, lady, car, etc?

Personally, I really wouldn’t give much thought to “Lady Smith” being engraved on the side, as long as the handgun functioned as I would expect it to. If I had a Lady Smith and felt like carrying it one day, I have no doubt that I would.

That said, if I could buy an identical firearm sans the "Lady Smith" engraving for the same price, I most certainly would. ;)

EDIT:
Not me, that's for sure. I'd rather eat worms.
I damn near lost cola on that one. :D

I'm considering it, since S&W doesn't seem fit to sell more of them and take the "Lady Smith" off, but I would no doubt have to endure an endless stream of taunts and jokes for the rest of my life. Aren't friends nice?

Yup, I Got one & Love it..

Hello
I have a Model 631 Lady-Smith and carry it Daily. They are the only-J-frame offered by the Factory with a smoother action and slightly reduced factory installed springs added. The reason S&W did this was to allow a lighter pull for the Ladies smaller hand. They come with 2 pairs of grips, at least mine did. The original rosewoods were too small so I replaced them with the compact factory boot grips.I don't care that it says Lady-Smith and I am sure my assailant would care even less if the situation provoked it. This is one of the smoothest actioned-J-frames I own, and it is a great shooter as well. Regards, Hammer it.

I don't have it yet but I put a model 60LS on layaway last month. Got it because I wanted a J frame .38 w/3 inch barrel and I got a good deal on it. Yeah I'll carry it when I'm fishing or woods roaming. No I'm not concerned about any "Ladysmith" remarks. I doubt that the marking will slow the bullet down any.

That's right.. and any MALE that would feel inferior for carrying one is NOT too sure about them selfs.. Hammer It.

I don't but who cares what it says on the side?

Tsk tsk, what would freud think? If he thought that a gun is a subsitute for a...but it says ladysmith...could that topple his little tower? :D

Any of you guys feeling inadequete with your ladysmiths can send them to me. My ego can handle it.

Many folks like the SW 3913 LS. I had a SW 317 LS has it had a full hammer spur. Nice feature.

I guess not carrying an LS gun because of the LS is a projective psychological test. One can protest toooooo much. :D

I was wondering about that. Is this true on all LS models? The M36 I handled had a lighter pull than the other J frames I've checked out, which is a good thing.

I don't mind the Lady Smith engraving, no biggie. I like it for the 4 oz of extra heft over the Airweight models for firing +P ammo, but I may regret the weight for pocket carry...

The main problem with the gun is I was looking for a shrouded or concealed hammer and this one has neither. is it a big deal for a gunsmith to bob the hammer?

Lady-Smith

Hello LH2
As far as I know all Lady Smiths are smoother and have a lighter trigger pull. The Hammer bobing is a small price to pay if you want that option. I carry mine in a pancake holster, so the hammer does not interfere. I like both options being double or slow firing single action witha good positive draw back on the Hammer. Regards, Hammer It.

News flash.
Freud’s comments were not directed at gun ownership. Insofar as Freud addressed the matter at all, he seems to have equated fear and loathing of guns to sexual immaturity and neuroticism.

I've never even considered one (of the LS J frames), just because of the grip size. Personally, I could care less what was printed on the side. The lighter trigger/springs sounds interesting, though.

I guess that it is the difference between changing out the grips for something less tiny, or doing a trigger job.

Oh, and if the trigger is lighter, I will certainly suggest this to my wife, who has grip strength problems (rheumatoid arthritis) -- a lighter trigger would be desireable to her. I know that she wouldn't have problems with something in the 20 oz range, because the .22 that she likes (my 422) weighs in at 23 oz, and she doesn't have a problem with the weight of my Bersa at 23 oz -- she just can't rack the slide.

Beauty---

Hammer It---Sir, your have a beauty. After looking at a few, the price was a bit much. Soooo- I decided on the Smith/Wesson Model #60 Stainless .357/38 cal. [Shoot basicaly the .38]. Would much rather the Lady Smith, but priced over $5 bills, had to back down. :( baby74879

Are the wood grips extra small? Makes sense I guess. I didn't really notice but looking at photos I guess they are smaller than the rubber grips on the 642.

I just thought it was nice being a 20 oz steel gun for shooting +P ammo, which everybody says is really harsh with the Airweights.
