Any good ideas for finding spent pistol brass??

The area I mentioned, near Deckers, has been kept reasonably clean for the past couple of years. The Forest Service hired a contractor to clean all the trash then the FS posted a rather large 6'X6' sign, which you cannot miss, where you turn off the paved road to enter the shooting area. The sing warns people to not shoot trees and such. I think the sign was/is a slap in the face to shooters. I'm surprised someone has not shot a hole or two in the sign. It's a matter of time.

Mind you, this area goes for about five miles to the south. There must be 20 or more places people use for shooting. I forgot to mention, the close in areas to the paved road are almost devoid of trees from dip sticks placing targets on trees. They don't place targets on trees anymore because there are no trees.

The FS blocked one off-shoot road to keep people from trashing up this one area but some shooters skirted around the berm and made a new road. That one has now been blocked.

In another direction west of Deckers, there is a very small shooting area of maybe 150' feet in diameter. It's very dangerous for shooting I don't shoot there and I don't look for brass. It looks like a land fill whose trash wasn't buried. The last time I was there, a couple of months ago, someone filled contractor size trash bags with some of the trash but didn't take the bags. There were enough bags to completely fill a dumpster.

Sorry for getting on my soap box. I know it's a bit off topic.

I use one of these:

Works fine, not too expensive.
Wow... I would have to TRY to take photos worse than that. And they're using them to market a product!
I'm sure it works, but ... those photos...

I've thought about buying a cheap kids butterfly net and mounting it vertically in some fixture so it can sit at gun-level to my right and snag all the empties.

Haven't tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
That might catch the stuff that actually ejects to the right. But, it won't do any good for the stuff that goes over your head, or tries to smack you in the face.

If you try it, you'll probably want something to hold the net open, so brass doesn't hit the net, fall down, and bounce out when it hits the bottom of the hoop.

I just roll a nut grabber (picked up at the local farm store) across the ground and catch whatever. Does a really good job and you don't have to bend over.;)

The problem we're having in Colorado with these easily accessible and very popular public land shooting areas is, TRASH. People take televisions, old computers, refrigerators and all sorts of target material then most people are too lazy to pick up their trash. The Forest Service is clamping down on these areas by limiting the places where you can shoot or closing them.

When I lived in Arizona this was a huge issue as well. Unfortunately, people are just buttholes. Many of the members on the shooting board I frequented when I lived there would organize clean up days for some of the more popular areas we would frequent, and it became a general rule that anytime I went out to the desert to scout or shoot, I brought back a truck bed full of trash I picked up. I always made it a point to come back with far more than I went out with.

Unfortunately, even with the best efforts from some great people - some areas were shut down because of the trash. At least the FS guys we talked to made it clear that they appreciated every effort we put into it. That was a small consolation I suppose.

People that leave trash and ruin areas for everybody else suck at life.

220 Swift, Do I understand correctly you are having a hard time finding 10mm brass? I may have a source for you, if you are interested.

I can find some. I just don't like paying for it.:) When I go to the range I can usually find enough 45 to more than make up for the ones I lost sometimes A lot extra, But finding 10mm will not happen that way. I also don't like spending most of my range time looking for .50 cent a piece cases. I would by some once fired brass if I could find some.
