Any big Kalashnikov fans here

I'm on such a budget that the only rifle I currently own is a Bulgarian SLR-100 built by Gordon Tech. Truly a fine weapon. I know that I can rely on this to bring in meat or more 'appropriate' weaponry in the worst conditions if the need be. I literally dream about owning an M4, M1A, FAL, .308 LTR, M40A1, BMG, M60, Garand, Mauser, Thompson, MP5, G36, ad nauseum. I truly could go on forever. I can only afford one for the time being and it is a great example of a trophy AK with Vietnam furniture.

I realize the limitations of the weapon and plan accordingly. I wish I can have a lot of things that I cannot afford; I'll part with many luxuries before my SLR100.

Have never owned an AK, yet.

Have been pining away for a faux Krinkov ever since the big Chief went on the warpath! That short barrel cutie would be so cool.

A genuine Krinkov would be even better, but that ain't gonna happen.;)

I don't shoot it as much as I'd like, but I like mine a lot. My wife likes it even more. It's a good rifle and it runs well.

I have a Bulgarian SLR-100 as well. It's as close as I could get to a genuine "war trophy" AK, and it's exceptionally well crafted for an AK. My roomie refers to the SLR-100 as the "National Match AK". Milled receiver, original old Soviet furniture, and a trigger that can hold its own with any HK G3. AKs are fun to shoot and cheap to feed, and their reliability is legendary.

Ayup!

Bulgarian SLR-95, US K-VAR black furniture set and lockwork conversion, fed nothing but my own Dillon 550 handloads since day 1. Gotta love the "Klack"!

All of my Ak types are .308/7.62NATO:

Zastava M77B1 (Yugoslavian)

IMI Galil ARM 323 (Israel)

MOLOT Vepr (Russia)

I've got a SAR-1 and I am hankering my better half to get a Krebs AK-103 clone or a Rob Arms VEPR II.

BTW, as much as SAR-1 is a great value, there are two things I hate. First, the darned midget stock (ooops, better watch out as it fits my wife perfectly), which I suppose I could replace with a K-VAR "American" set. Second, the darned trigger slap.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for the second problem? I heard that using a buffer gets rid of the slap. I was also told to "just" get a set of new fire control parts.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yep, I had ONE Norinco MAK-90. BUT, at the show last month, a dealer had four NIB MAK-90's on his table. Asking price....$275! Yep, I got me another one! Still hate that darned thumbhole stock, but what a sweet trigger.

Safe shootin' to all.

Thanks for the links Gewehr!

I really love my Norinco's, but now I'm thinking that I should have just gone ahead and laid down the extra cash for a SAR-1. They're selling for $350 in my neck of the woods, and they've already got the "correct" amount of U.S. parts without all the hassle.

I have...uh hum...."numerous" :) 30 rounders, and if I've been paying attention, you also have to change out the followers and floor plates in all or your mags. That could get a little pricey for me!

I'm still debating what to do, but I appreciate the help.

I like my 20ga with the spare five round magazine just fine, thank you, for all those unpleasent social egagements that require large amounts of heavy metal... Seriously, it's fun to pull it out at the local shotgun club.

Skorzeny:

Trigger slap occurs when the back of the hammer hits the top of the disconnector (aka the secondary sear), which then pivots and hits the trigger. The solution is to grind a little bit off the bottom of the disconnector where it hits the trigger. Polishing the back of the hammer and the top of the disconnector may also help.

Hey Skorzeny, good to see you once again. I have a buffer on my SLR100 and have never felt a phenomenon known as trigger slap. Could be because it is a milled receiver? I do not know... I have had it on the rifle since I purchased it and never had a reason to take it off.

Thanks for the responses.

BTW, whatever happened to ak-47.net? Last time I heard it was sold to someone. Is it not open again?

Your trigger slap is a result of the poorly backwards manufactured US made fire control components. If you feel like spending the cash, put US made butt stock and handguards on the rifle and install original fire control parts. I happened to have a set a Chinesse parts laying around and installed them. My SAR2 has such a sweet pull on it now that all my friends marvel at it. The original Romanian triggers are single hooks and the that is what the receivers on the SAR's are cut for. If you want to use a double hook like the Chicom triggers you must cut a slot for it. To see what I am talking about turn your SAR upside down and look at the hole that trigger protrudes from. On one side of the hole you will see a cut that extends toward the muzzle about 1/4". To make a double hook trigger work you must make one just like it on the other side of the hole. Its an easy task with a Dremel. Hope this helps. If need be I can post a pic of the cut I made on my SAR.
