Any Ammo Left Out There?

Thanks scottaschultz!

Nice list to check out....I finally just bought from Midway....ordered 380 and 38 spl. (on backorder). I'll just get in line and wait my turn. I have a minimal stash now which I don't want to dip into. When the new stuff comes to the range we'll go!!

When all is said and done, there is a lot more said than done.

There are signs that this panic may be ending soon. My local gunstore proprietor told me today that demand had definitely cooled in the last couple of weeks for firearms. I've noticed that guns are not leaping off the shelves nearly as fast as they did even a couple of weeks ago.

I'm seeing the same thing at my local gun stores too. During the peak of the panic, they only had one or two ARs in stock, a couple weeks ago, at one of my shops, they had 14 on the rack.

It seems like the ammo craze is a little bit lagged behind the gun craze though.

Your explanation of the stupidity behind this panic is one of the better, and more succinct I've seen - I think you condensed what I've been trying to tell people in 9 paragraphs worth of discussion to 3.

In re: where's the ammo. The online sellers are still largely out of stock, but if you just check your local gun shop, there's quite a bit of ammo to be found.

gotta know when to go to wal mart. i usually can pick up 2 or 3 boxes of .45 and acouple 15 shell boxes of 12 gauge slugs there every 2 or 3 weeks.

Thanks for all the links, that is what ineeded. Sorry about the political comment I am just super frustrated. The other guy is right, it has driven gun ownership though the roof. I guess thats a good thing.
StevieBoy you just really summed it up great.
I appreciate the input.

Here is Utah there is plenty of ammo at Cabelas and the local gun stores with the exception of .380. That is nowhere to be found and unfortunately that is the caliber I need.

I think the problem most people are seeing online is that the most popular calibers are only available in the premium, $1.50 a round variety, which none of us can afford to use for plinking.

Here in NW Florida, the local Wal-Mart shelves are full of ammo? Perhaps because there are so many hunters around this area, I don't know.

Even the local AFB has plenty of ammo available from what a buddy tells me. Since retiring, I rarely have a reason to go aboard base anymore.

Perhaps I'll make an effort to cruise by the BX and see how much it's changed in the past couple years....

Yup lots of ammo out there...

...just stockpiled in ppl's basements and safes. I am in utah and I just went to my favorite ammo store last weekend. They always have tons of ammo, NO .380, NO 9mm, NO 38sp. I have a few gun buddies that have 10-100k rounds in the basement, I used to think they were nuts, but now I guess when its available and I have some cash I will fill my basement so I can go shooting at times like this :D.

Here in the heartland of America, west-central Illinois, I can't find decently priced ammo anywhere -- gun shops, large retailers, etc. Wal-Mart is out of all the common pistol calibers for the most part. They're down to the "weird" stuff (no offense -- y'know, the .25, .32, etc.), like one box of .45, and a couple boxes of .380. I'm out of luck with my 9mm, and the only .22LR to be had is the expensive stuff. It's been this way since, heck, November or earlier ?

It's sad, as we have a Winchester plant (as they continue to cut jobs left and right) not two miles from my local Wally World.

I can't find ammo at the stores (except for the occasional "premium" stuff) and I can't order online due to Illinois law. It's frustrating to say the least.

The only bright spot is that I bought an 870 with my Christmas money, and Wally World has plinking shotshells running out of their ears!

WHAT ?

It's sad, as we have a Winchester plant (as they continue to cut jobs left and right)
that is crazy, they cant keep up with demand and they are cutting jobs? I heard winchester was about 18 months behind on orders, they should be hiring

I can't order online due to Illinois law
Who told you this? The local gun shop?

(430 ILCS 65/3) (from Ch. 38, par. 83‑3)
Sec. 3.
(b‑5) Any resident may purchase ammunition from a person outside of Illinois. Any resident purchasing ammunition outside the State of Illinois must provide the seller with a copy of his or her valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card and either his or her Illinois driver's license or Illinois State Identification Card prior to the shipment of the ammunition. The ammunition may be shipped only to an address on either of those 2 documents.

Thanks for clarifying, ilbob. I was actually corrected by a shooting buddy just a couple hours ago, before I saw your response.

And yes, they are cutting jobs like it's no tomorrow. It sounds like a bad operation all-around. The people that work there have always had a situation where they make a very good living (probably $23+ per hour, plus overtime), yet forced overtime, swing shifts, crappy hours, a-hole bosses, etc. prohibit them from enjoying their paychecks. Clocking out is no longer a time to enjoy yourself -- it's a time to see your family for a couple hours and sleep until it's time to work again. I used to envy the paycheck until I got to know people that work there.... it just isn't worth making the money if you can't even enjoy it.

Makes me think different about Winchester ammo, but I can't afford any sort of "boycott."

The only thing we've been having trouble with is pistol ammo. People are hording it like food. Which sucks because 9mm are near impossible to find. My concealed carry test comes in about a month and normally don't use an auto. I need the practice.

Thats another thing I've noticed though is that the concealed carry classes here have to be booked months in advance. People are lining up for those too.
