Any 6.5X55 shooters here?

Interesting, emcon5. The description at SAMCO reads as if it is actually shootable, launching a projectile. It is not described as a blank. I have seen the blank ammo sold on the net.
"6.5 x 55 Swedish Ball with Wooden Bullet Swedish Mfg. NC/BE
Packed 20 rounds per box, 200 rounds per pack, 800 rounds per case. Wt. #28 Lbs. per case.
Caution: Special should be taken when firing this ammo. Wooden bullets can penetrate."

Thanks,
Ron

They are launched at substantial velocity and can be dangerous, but I doubt that they will be satisfactory for actual target practice. I'll be interested to see what kind of results you get.

Bought a 96 carbine back in the 80's for $55 at a gun show - included 2 -200 round military ammo packs, had a Lyman peep sight installed. While the stock was original (matching numbers), it had been sporterized - someone had made it a pistol grip........made in 1907, it will shoot 3 120gr Sierras into 1 inch at 100 (now with a Burris compact 4x) when I do my part....less recoil than my model 7 in 7-08

Thank you for that information, emcon5 and JohnKSa!
The manual emcon5 supplied has the wooden blank cartridge illustrated just as he said. If it is accurate at 50 meters, maybe I can get some use out of them. If it is not, then I am just out about $19 for 200 rounds.

Still have 3 96's and 3 38's that i bought in the hey day.Two i bought at a local sporting good store for the princely sum of $36,the other four for $79 ,all matching and in great shape.Of course you could also buy a FN-49 or an Hakim for $79 so those days are long gone. And dont try to scare off a stray cat with the wooden projectiles,i know from experience they are lethal.

6.5x55:

Hey MJ1,
It is definitely my favorite caliber, period. I don't have the older Swede rifles but do have one in a Blazer K95 and R93. I love to hunt with both rifles even though they are the same caliber. I love shooting single shots which is why I bought the K95. SWEET.....:)

My favorite rifle round, bar none. I started off with Swedish M-96 and M-38 which led me to my Tikka Hunter. I live in the Catskills and it'll take anything.

Here is my Schultz & Larsen M69. It is in 7.62mm NATO (notwithstanding the title of this thread!) and it has an Australian Central target micrometer rearsight in place of the original. A mount has been brazed to the left of the tang to attach it. The original rearsight was mounted on the bridge, and there are 2 tapped holes (now with screws filling them) for the Danish sight.

It shoots very accurately despite a worn barrel, but despite its weight and rubber buttplate it kicks harder than any 7.62mm bolt action I've ever shot (I used to own an Israeli K98k).

While the receiver ring has been cleaned of markings, there is still the "Gew. 98" marking on the left of the receiver, signifying that it came from a WW1 era rifle. There is a new serial number on the right side of the receiver ring.

It differs from DoctorXRing's M69 in the shape of the bolt handle and corresponding stock recess. Anyone know anything about this?

Also, has anyone got any good sources of information on these rifles to add to the Wikipedia page (now graced with DoctorXRing's excellent photos after he gave permission for their use).
