Any 357 SAA fans?

While I have two Ruger BHs in .357 (one large frame I bought as a youngster and packed in the hills (lots of good memories), and one more recent medium frame 50th Anniversary), I'll take big bore any day. My .357s rarely get out in the field anymore. But once in a while, I do get an itch to shoot the smaller caliber. The CAS crowd I think likes them because of the very light recoil, so faster times in their games.... Not sure if in the 'spirit' of the game ... but hey, I don't shoot CAS so won't say anything more..... I like the authentic 'boooom' of a properly loaded .45 Colt (or even better, BP cartridges for some smoky fun) over the 'pop, pip, pop' of light .357/.38 loads ..... Just me though :) .

Someday, I'd like to own a Colt SAA (or clone) and if I do it will be either .45 Colt or .44 Spec. You might say I don't dislike the .357/.38, but just prefer the big bore. Not heavy big-bore (like the .454), just normal .44Spec (240g) or .45 Colt loads (250g) in the 850-1100fps range. Just something about it that 'speaks to me'.... And just love to shoot 'em.

I have a NV 5 1/2" in 357 and love it! The only thing I didn't like about it was the factory stock grips - pointed checkering that felt like 80 grit paper on my hands after a couple of hundred rounds through it. (Sorry - I just shoot 38s in mine).

I switched my grips out for a set of Eagle "gunfighter" grips and can't believe the improvement - at least for my hands.

While maybe not as "authentic" as a larger bore - it's still been around for 100 + years (38 spl) and is a great cartridge to re-load and shoot. If I could only keep on handgun, It would be my NV.

The birdshead is in .357 the others .45 Colt both Uberti's and great fun to shoot. The .45 rides in a slimjim style holster while the birds head has a shoulder holster copied from an original.

This is me. I have a couple Blackhawks in 357 an old 3 screw flattop and a 50th anniversary and I do enjoy them, but I shoot DA 357s and my bigger bore SAs more.

I have a number of single-actions but only three of them are .357; two New Vaqueros and a Montado. The only thing I don't like about the Montado is that the long .357 case and the short Montado ejector rod are not an ideal match.
I once had a .357 Blackhawk convertible that I miss and I am beginning to have designs on a pair of 4 5/8 convertibles in .357. (Just want the available ammo options.)

Overall, Still prefer .45 caliber in my single-actions, though.

.357

I have been through a few single actions over the years with an intence desire to love them.
I grew up with S&W sixguns and learned how to shoot them well.
But i just could not get hits with any single action i bought.
When Ruger came out with the .44 spec bisly blackhawk i bought it for some Keith nostalgia as it reminded me of the no.5.
That pistol just shoots for me friends, so out the door went the .357, .44 mag and the only reason i keep the old .22 single six is because of the kids.

I do have many more larger caliber SA in my safe, but I do have two .357's both are Ruger 4 5/8" Flat Tops, one is a 1957 model the other is a 50th Anniversary Model, the 50th is very accurate and makes it's way to my hip whenever I'm hunting small critters! It's also a joy to shoot and pack around with .38 Specials at the ranch.

That one was taken in Nevada off the Great Basin Highway, between Alamo and Caliente, the Coyotes were not cooperating so we went jack hunting.

Both of my SA's are in .357,,,

My departed nephew took a small deer with Kate,,,
Shot from a tree stand at about 40 feet.

I only use them when I'm channeling my inner Roy Rogers,,,
For me, the .38 Special is plenty of bullet.
