Any 357 SAA fans?

It seems like everybody prefers the 44 and 45 calibers regarding the colt SAA and its clones, and turn up their noses when you mention the 357. Not sure why this is since its been in the line up for over 50 years. Just wondering if anyone here is fond of that particular combo, having really put it to use in the field. Thanks

I have New Vaquero in .357 that I love to shoot; especially with Remington 125gr rounds. I usually shoot .38 spcl out of it but now that ammo is available and coming down in price, the NV is back to breathing fire every other weekend :D

The larger calibers are more authentic to the time period when SAAs were the dominant sidearms.
Maybe that's got something to do with their popularity.
But the .38/357 seem to be the most used version for the cowboy style matches.

You are just talking to the wrong crowd. Like g.wilikers said, .357 is by far the most popular caliber with the SASS folks. That being said, I'd love to own a .45 some day.

Here is my first Muley (74/75?) taken with my second gen Colt SAA .357 mag. a cast RCBS 150gr .358 with probably 5 grs. of Unique. After selling it, because I didn't know any better, the buyer converted it to .45 Colt.

Is that yer finger on that trigger?
That's three demerits.
Back then, was there anyone who didn't do that with their SA sixguns, though?
Heck, just about everyone in the western movies did.
Might have even seen Audie Murphy do it a time or two.
Never understood why folks would have their sixguns converted to another caliber, though.
Can't have too many sixguns.
Nice picture, too.
Do you wish you could be that young, again?

I've had several Blckhawks in the past in 357 Mag..(Full Size) ..I always enjoyed them ..but now I went to DA Rugers...

Single actions beg for larger bores

That's just my opinion, though.

I think cowboy action shooters prefer the .357 'cause it is far more affordable than most other calibers and(downloaded) is far easier/quicker to shoot for time in cowboy matches.

I allus thot the smallbore single actions were heavy and less well "balanced" than the .44s and .45s.
But if I were to charge hard at CAS again, it would be with .38s just for the convenience.

Colt sold a good many .32-20s in the day, less than .45, .44, or .38 WCF, but more than .41 LC.

Yes G, but with the hammer down and in my early twenties....and yes I wouldn't mind being a kiddie again if I knew what I know now

While I don't favor the .357 Magnum as much as the .44s and .45s, here are my .357 SAs:

Nothing atall wrong with them!

Three on left are Rugers, next a Colt and then a Hy Hunter.

My first SA was in .357. Uberti made it back in 1970, I got it much later than that.

I liked it but, like some of the above, found myself itching for one in .45 Colt. Just seemed right. Wound up with two Cimarrons (also got an Uberti 1860 Army, but that's outside the scope of this dicissussion). I like them a good deal.

Ended up giving the .357 to my dad, as he had been talking about maybe picking up something with a tad more "oomph" than his 9mm for when he was out in the country.

I have a blued in 357 and a stainless in 45Colt
Yes the 45 is slighter lighter and balances better

I haven't owned an SAA Colt in 357, the ones I've had were 44 spl and 45. I did however get to shoot a ladies gun at a shoot once. She was a pretty good shooter, and had a nicely tuned Colt. Her husband loaded lots of ammo for her. I asked to shoot it, and she said sure. After the first cylinder, and my compliments on the action and how nicely it shot, she told me to use up the 100 rd box if I wanted. It was quite enjoyable. I really wouldn't mind having a Colt in 357 for a shooter, but it wouldn't replace the large caliber for field use in my neighborhood.
