Here is some good information

Subject: 18 WAYS TO BE A GOOD LIBERAL

1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.

2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

activists do.

18. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right-wing conspiracy.

GOD BLESS AMERICA
ooops, can't do that either

The way I see it Mel was clearly drunk and said some stuff that he wished he hadn't. Charge him for DUI, NOT for what came out of his mouth! Last I checked your entitled to your opinions drunk or not, if the cop wants to be thin skinned and run and tattle that's his problem.
Last I checked nobody's calling for him to be criminally prosecuted for what came out of his mouth.

Of course he's entitled to his opinions. And we Jews are likewise entitled to withold our money from anything he's trying to sell, including this line of what we now know to be complete bull:

Mel Gibson said:
Asked if he was anti-Semitic, Gibson said, "No, of course not. And here's the other thing. For me, it goes against the tenets of my faith, to be racist in any form. To be anti-Semitic is a sin. It's been condemned by one Papal Council after another. There's encyclicals on it, which is, you know -- to be anti-Semitic is to be un-Christian, and I'm not."

Wow, Harley, that was pretty much entirely off point.

11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make "The Passion of the Christ" for financial gain only.

I haven't heard anyone suggest anything like that in this discussion.

As all of us know, Hollywood actors have always been using their celebrity to push agendas. Mel spent a lot of his money to make "Passion of the Christ", which did had a lot of anti-semitic overtones. (I'm waiting to hear from an eyewitness to the original events to say whether of not the film was realistic).

Now he gets caught shooting his mouth off after consuming too much liquid honesty, of course the media is going to jump on it. Is he being denied freedom of speech? No, he's just being held accountable for what spews out of his mouth.

I don't think the media is anti-semitic, I believe their anti Israel stance has more to do with Israel being a powerful ally of of the USA, but that belongs in its own topic.

Are you guys kidding me? He's lucky that the anti-semitic comments are all anyone is focusing on. He also tried to escape arrest and repeatedly threatened the arresting officer. Plus, the police department tried to cover it up like they have every other time Mel has been stopped for reckless driving.

The people who say Mel isn't being treated fairly are probably the same people who think O.J. didn't do it and that the law treats everybody fairly, regardless of wealth and social status.

Actually I was trying to tie it in with what this board is all about.

God, guns, and freedom's.

Something like that anyway.

Mel Gibson needs to get his act together. Bet in some countries his rating has gone sky high. Me I believe he has his right to his opinion, he will reap his just rewards.

Mel and his agent are taling about it now. Hmmm, I am an alcoholic, so I am able to do this, and then go to rehab, and make a movie about it.:barf:

Read, your eyes will be opened and your hearts will rejoice. Or not.

Gibson has a right to his opinions. People have a right to spend or not spend their money on his films. No conflict in any of that with freedom of speech.

Gibson is not God; therefore, he can't create something from nothing. He can't create his beliefs, as evidenced by his words, from nothing. They had to come from somewhere, despite his claims to the contrary.

I've enjoyed most--not all--of his movies in the past, but I might not do so anymore. I'm not denying him HIS freedom of speech; I've heard of no one who is demanding he be imprisoned or fined for his words and beliefs. However, I will deny him MY money and support.

actually an anti semite is ...

any one who would discriminate against people from the "fertile crescent" which encompasses parts of Israel, Lebanon,Syria, and Iraq. Which means that both jews and arabs are included in the term "semite". So anti semitism is very simply racism, directed at people from a certain region. The thing that I don't get is how people can still use the old "they killed jesus" excuse, when the pope officially excused the jewish people like in in the 80's. And Israel has every right to defend itself from rocket attacks...they punish their citizens for abusing the arab population, have forced settlers off arab lands, but lebanon just turns a blind eye towards hezbollah? that is shenanigans, pure and simple . That would be like Bush saying "well I can't really control the Marines, as they do what they please" .

Anti Semite by the book may mean people of a general region but everybody knows that in the context it is used it means Anti Jew. That is how it is being used here, in the media, and in normal conversations.

Fertile Cresent

Yes, Mel is a bigot. He is also a drunk and has been battling it for a long time.

He is trying to find himself in his religion and a bottle of booze. The guy is struggling and has many problems. Jeeze it goes right back to the fact money and wealth and fame is not the answer.

I could do with some more money, I don't think it will change me to a drunk though.

I believe I'll not continue this thread it is going to be closed, it is not gun related. I am going to say this though. If you follow the trail most of the ones wanting your guns are semite, in this country it is very apparant.

There are many Semite who are all over the world, if you trace the lineage of the arab and the phoenician and the language it is pretty amazing how many there are.

Jewish people have put themselve's is a box long ago, and a faraway place. It has gone on since time immemorial. Pretty ridiculous.

Some feel it is the destiny that was written long ago, "When the man comes around", Johnny Cash song.

i'm thinkin that most of the guys in hollywood with most of the money are jews............

I highly doubt that...the first two words of that sentence especially.

I'd say this thread has outlived its utility, but it never really had any to begin with.

I didn't see the Passion, but people are always trying to label Gibson a hatemonger. The Passion was about Jesus, the Jews therein merely accessories to that story. The Patriot was about the American Revolution, and yet people still tried to say Gibson was trying to paint an unfair portrait of the British in that film. Any smart person whose opinion should matter to you can disconnect what people did historically from what the people are today, so even if historical depictions are inaccurate, we should be able to get past that and understand the film executives' motives for taking some dramatic license. You should also be smart enough to understand the difference between a documentary and a movie. I know a really smart guy (kind of qualifying but mostly unrelated, there was a camera crew follow him around the CBOT pit yesterday for the first day of electronic ag futures trading) whose philosophy is a good antagonist makes a good movie. I've always felt that was a very succinct way of judging how well a movie will do. Gibson has created great antagonists in his films, and it is unfortunate that many people choose to read that as him hating the national or racial groups in which those people reside. Almost everyone that's been very inebriated certainly knows you spit stuff out you usually wouldn't and might not believe when you're in that state - it's not just the "truth syrum" effect. If I call you a 'fag' when I'm drunk, does that mean I truly harboy some hatred for homosexuals? I'd hope that's not how it's interpretted. But that's how the media loves to play it, and those who are letting their opinions of Gibson (or anyone else) be swayed by this projection, they're in turn playing you. I'm not a Mel fan by any stretch; I've liked some movies, disliked some, ignored some, and on the whole just have him lumped with all the other actors. I'm just trying to make the point that we ought not be manipulated by the different angles from which light is shone upon a fairly irrelevant (however irresponsible) event.
