Anti-Home Invasion Preparations (non-gun)

How about an underground tunnel on a slope with a small cart on wheels so you can jump on the cart in the tube and send yourself flying about three blocks away. Then have all your home defence on remote control.

:D

My wife and I live in an upstairs apartment with only one door on the ground level with stairs leading up to the apartment. We bought one of those security bars that you can put under the door handle so it wedges itself against the floor when opened from the outside. I obviously haven't tried to tear down my own door, but with some decent pushing/shoving of my own it seems to hold up well. Other than that I have a 12 gauge under the bed.

Since wire mesh windows or security bars can be unsightly, has anyone ever tried that security film that is available for windows? I've seen it used on that "It Takes A Thief" show (Discovery Channel) and thought it was a good idea if it works.

Please post a link to somewhere that sells that... I'm not sure enough of what you're talking about to know what it is, but it sounds interesting.

I found a new one...

I was in Home Depot picking up an extra ABC Fire Extinguisher when I came across the below:

760 LUMEN Handheld Spotlight

Actually, the one pictured is just close to the model I bought. I can't find the exact model I picked up, but it only cost $29.99 at Home Depot.

The thing is BRIGHT and lights up a whole room as if you had turned all the lights on. If you hit someone in the face with the spotlight dead on, they will be seeing stars for a minute +.

It's both a good HD tool as well as something worth having around if any other malady strikes (such as a blackout).

Here's a link of similar stuff that I found from a quick google search. It's probably not the same stuff they use in the TV show, but the same idea.
It seems like a good idea, but have never heard of anyone who has actually used it and what they thought about it.

I read in a previous thread (the one about the deployed soldier and his wife) Where someone suggested she go to the range and shoot up a paper target (pref. a Human silhouette) and hang it on the front door.

I wouldn't want to call that bluff.

A good flashlight seems obvious to me. I keep a 4 D-cell Mag-Lite by the bed at night. Not only is it good and bright, but it doubles as a club should the need arise.
