Anti Gun Propaganda

But I've read that gang members make up a fair share of the "victims".

Some time back, a "defector" from Brady/handguncontrol clued us in on what they used for their numbers in "death of a child due to a handgun"..

They counted accidents, crimes (including gang on gang crime), suicides, self defense, and those people shot by the police as long as the "victim" was under 25 years old, they counted it as "death of a child due to a handgun", and basically nothing else mattered. Including those shot with rifles and shotguns. Everything went into making up that magic number.

As far as I can tell, they have no scruples when it comes to making up numbers or telling any lie to support their agenda.

They have lost a lot of support since Sept 11 2001. It seems that their mantra that "handguns and assault weapons are the biggest threats to public safety existant" lost a lot of traction with folks who saw a handful of fanatics kill around 3,000 people without using a single gun.

The best description of the Brady Campaign I can give, is a broken record. Say the same thing over and over again, maybe someone will listen.

I came to a realization a while ago, that anti-gunners, brady types, left leaning politicians, etc don't really want to ban your guns, or protect lives for that matter. It's all about POWER, banning your FREEDOM, and ensuring their own political and social survival.

It's not about the guns...it's about control.

Reading through the links provided it is kinda amazing the power the "little Guy" can have when likeminded folks stick together.

I am very impressed.

It was a true "grass roots" effort.
Think of it the next time you hear or read about some trumped up affair being foisted as a "grass roots" effort.

Possibly the greatest thing about it was the support given in the original thread I linked to by the poster named "folkbabe".
Despite the fact that she herself was anti gun - even she saw the right/wrong of how HCI presented the facts.

Well,,,that and the fact that the guy that owns TFL (Rich L.) has big ones that clang & won't back off when he knows what's right ;).
Somebody famous said, "Be sure you're right then go ahead and do it".
Rich L. lives that...

But I've read that gang members make up a fair share of the "victims".

Gang crimes make up more than half of all the homicides since approximately 1982. Perhaps even before then. Flaws in the FBI crime report (UCR) disguise homicides committed by gang members and drug-related crimes. Cops check a simple box on their report forms if they believe the victim knew his killer. This box gets checked when a drug buy goes south, when gangbangers do a drive-by on rivals, when some kids is killed because he was wearing red on the wrong street and when wife kills her abusive husband.

When I took homicide investigation courses, there were two significant facts drilled into our heads. 97% of homicides involved people who knew each other and second, the big two motives for homicide are money and sex.

This allowed the Brady-ites to claim, with some statistical support, that a gun is more likely to be used against you than to kill a stranger. Clever wording there. Good propaganda. It also gave them their quip about a gun being more likely used against a family member than a stranger. By lumping drug dealers and gang members into "family" they get inflated stats.

One of their primary reasons for including adolescents in their "child" numbers was to obtain the much higher rate of homicides due to inner-city gang involvement. If you break out the numbers of firearm deaths for children under 13, it's less than 1/3 of the teens.

44 AMP's post simply confirms what we've known all along. The Brady Bunch have no scruples or morals when it comes to information. Their campaign is simply propaganda and one Herr Goebbels would be proud of.

Tom,
Long story short & filling in some of the missing parts from Bud's links.

El Jefe noted that HCI used a picture of a Beretta on their website & yanked HCI and Beretta's chains over it.
That ruffled a lot of HCI and Beretta feathers.

He took things a step further and registered handguncontrol.net as a domain name and put up a website that looked similar to the handguncontrol.org (Brady) site.
Only instead of the HCI propaganda, he debunked all their claims.

John joined in and registered handguncontrol.com as a domain and did the same thing.

Brady got all kinds of PO'ed about it and tried to bully them into removing the sites by threatening legal action.

That's when Rich stepped in and backed both guys by covering whatever legal costs might be involved.
He issued a challenge to Brady, that if they wanted the sites, then "Molon Labe" - come and take them.

Brady pressed the issue & eventually lost.
Both parody sites remained up & there was nothing Brady could do about it.

Brady caved and changed the name from handguncontrol.org to Brady in order to keep people from hitting one of the parody sites.

That is an excellent story.

As far as the Brady bunch goes, while they are down, I would never rule them out totally. They certainly still have some supporters in the government and certainly some members of the Supreme Court appear to be on their side.

Kreyzhorse,

Too true. Heck, the witch can still get face time with POTUS. Don't think we'll see Wayne and Barry having a beer summit anytime soon.
