Another TSA outrage

I was close, but no cigar

Grant is on the $50; Benjamin Franklin is on the $100.

Franklin was a member of the Continental Congress, signed both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and created the Post Office in this country. THAT'S why he's on the $100 bill; not having been an ambassador to France (although he was an excellent one!). ;)

I think it was because he advocated the turkey being our national bird. :) Surely it's not in celebration of his role as the designer of the USPS! :barf: ;)

The TSA needs to do all four of the following to make us truly safer in the skies. They have implemented some of these on a limited scale, but until all four are SOP, we will not be safe on the airlines.

1. Arm all pilots/co-pilots
2. Reinforce all cockpit doors
3. Put armed air marshals on all flights
4. Profile all passengers

TBM,
Nothing short of nude passengers, no luggage and full-body scans will make us truly safer. Even then, we still have to worry about our pilots. I'll skip that for now, thankyouveddymuch.

wingman,

But it is not the airline industry that has instituted the treatment people are getting. The last time I flew in 1997 I had a pleasant and hassle-free check-in (including several handguns and ammo), boarding, and flight. The same as every other since I can remember flying with my family in the 1960s.

The WH and Congress bear direct responsibility for what has happened both before, during and after 9/11/01. They were, and are, in charge. What is going to happen is that foreign investors are going to wind up what little is left of yet another one of our industries.

The industry needs to tell congress to clean up the TSA, becuase people who don't want to deal with the crap are not flying. Which means jobs and taxes from the industry go bye-bye. Congress won't like this, and will clean up the TSA to get people to keep flying.

Theoretically, anyway.

LAk, I agree with your point however sad it may be that in order to hold
on to our freedom "somewhat" some business will suffer, we only really
have two ways of fighting back with our vote and money. The consumer
can really make a difference but to say we can do it painless or without
effort it just won't happen.

I can't believe these sick perverts get away with it. My step mom used to work for the TSA and quit out of disgust. She had some of the most incompetent coworkers you could imagine. There where literally people that could not get hired at McDonalds working along side her. I am not joking or exaggerating. In Minneapolis they have or had no hiring standards at all.

I agree the TSA is a real mess. Senseless procedures, I have to dejectedly agree that it is just one more thing to keep "us" in line. Not into the conspiracy thing, but I know the feds are not beyond doing crazy things. A nephew of mine just hired with TSA..just a kid..no experience..some school..clean record..the ones i've dealt with are pretty much duds as to "security". But then so was DHS/customs..before I left I met two kids, literally, 19 or 20, no school, no military, no nothing, they did IN FACT, work at McDonalds, before hiring on. It's all a joke really, if only it wasn't a matter that should be taken seriously.

That's why going to private companies won't improve the situation...it would still be the same questionable people being hired. And giving S&S abilities to immature people has caused enough problems in LE, now the guv'ment has given that power to anyone who can pass a nominal background check, and maybe can read or write?
Recent flight out of ND, on a commuter airline, the 15 or so on the plane were searched twice over...good that the TSA people were following procedures...but the general layout of the access to the plane, was so bad that it wouldn't have mattered anyway. Any terrorist arising from the North Dakota hinterlands, could have easily bypassed their security, with nominal knowledge possessed by any con or LEO. Or even a kid proficient at the right video game.
TSA, another little legacy of the 'war on terror', which will likely stay around for the next 50 years.
That said, when I quit academic work, maybe I'll go TSA...seems to be a way for people to indulge their inner pervert without consequences. Or not...damn ethics again...

Not likely

"English: Political Corectness [sic] is Equil [sic] to Common Sence [sic] Raised to the Power of Negitive [sic] Infinity.

Not until you learn to punctuate and spell - or at least use Spell Check.

4V50G,

Privatize the operation.

Isn't that the problem that created the TSA in the first place? Just curious. Don't get me wrong, if you want an operation to cost twice as much and be half as effective, move it from private companies to the government.

Many corporations do not like to run their own inhouse security, but the problem with the previous state of affairs was that security services were contracted. Have each airline control access to their own aircraft and things might be much better, with the stipulation that all personnel must be employees of the airline - just like flight crews etc

I concur COMPLETELY. The worse part of your statement is that soon there will be NO DIFFERENCE and our kids will suffer because of it.

TSA needs to be disolved. It does no true good only inconveniences. It spends all of it's time looking for weapons when it should be looking for terrorists as Israel does.
