NEW ALLEGATIONS TONIGHT ABOUT ILLEGAL STRIP SEARCHES TAKING PLACE INSIDE REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT.

ON MONDAY, THE I-TEAM UNCOVERED CHARGES OF SERIOUS SECURITY LAPSES THERE AND NOW, WE'RE HEARING ABOUT SOME DISTURBING INCIDENTS RELATED TO PASSENGER SCREENING.

ANDREA MCCARREN JOINS US WITH MORE ON THE STORY.

Andrea McCarren on-set:

IN TSA JARGON, THEY'RE CALLED PRIVATE SCREENINGS. THAT'S WHEN A PASSENGER WHO SETS OFF AN ALARM IS TAKEN TO ANOTHER LOCATION AND CHECKED MORE THOROUGHLY FOR WEAPONS OR EXPLOSIVES.

BUT WE'VE NOW LEARNED ABOUT SOME PRIVATE SCREENINGS THAT APPARENTLY WENT TOO FAR.

Story:

TSA Employee: "I couldn't imagine my sister or my mother going through that
process. I was so upset."

AGAIN AND AGAIN, TSA EMPLOYEES AT REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT -INCLUDING SUPERVISORS- TOLD US THAT PASSENGERS WERE ASKED TO REMOVE THEIR CLOTHING AND EXPOSE THEIR PRIVATE PARTS DURING SECURITY SCREENINGS.A CLEAR VIOLATION OF TSA'S OWN INTERNAL GUIDELINES. OBTAINED BY THE I-TEAM.

TSA Employee: "The look on their face would almost give you the sense that
they felt like they were in a sense being raped. In a sense, being
victimized and to a certain extent, they were. "

TSA Employee: "That really incensed me that someone felt that they could
just put on some gloves and they could just violate someone to that degree."

TSA Employee: "They actually had the passenger remove the clothing that
covered the sensitive area and perform a duck walk to see if something would
fall out."

IN FACT, SOME OF THOSE SO-CALLED PRIVATE SCREENINGS WERE ALLEGEDLY CONDUCTED IN A VERY PUBLIC PLACE: THIS STAIRWELL.ACCESSIBLE TO OTHER PASSENGERS AND AIRPORT EMPLOYEES.

TSA Employee: "The private screenings were conducted right in that
stairwell"

Andrea McCarren: Isn't that an inappropriate place to be searched?

TSA Employee: "That's a very inappropriate place to be searched."

TSA EMPLOYEES SAY AFTER THEY COMPLAINED, THE SCREENINGS WERE MOVED INTO THIS MANAGERS' OFFICE. WHERE THEY ALLEGE, UNSUSPECTING PASSENGERS WERE EITHER VIDEOTAPED OR MONITORED ON CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION.

TSA Employee: I couldn't believe it! I said is that a camera up there? And
they said yeah.

Andrea McCarren: Do you think the women being strip searched had any idea
they were being videotaped? TSA Employee: Absolutely not

A TSA OFFICIAL INSISTS THE CAMERA WAS COVERED UP AND EVEN DEACTIVATED, A FACT SEVERAL EMPLOYEES DISPUTE.

Andrea McCarren: You saw a light go on in that camera? TSA Employee:
"Right."

SOME TSA EMPLOYEES ALSO ALLEGE THAT THE PASSENGERS SELECTED FOR ADDITIONAL SCREENING WERE OFTEN DETERMINED WELL BEFORE THEY REACHED THE MAGNETOMETERS.

Andrea McCarren: "You're saying a female passenger would be stopped for
additional screening not because she set off an alarm but because of her
breast size?"

TSA Employee: "Absolutely, Yes"

IN FACT, SHE SAYS SOME SCREENERS EVEN -INTENTIONALLY- SET OFF MAGNETOMETERS BY KICKING THEM.

TSA Employee: "It leaves supervisors in a very bad spot because if the
manager's enjoying it, then how are you going to tell him to stop them from
doing it?"

Mark Hatfield, TSA Spokesman: "The rules are non-negotiable and they apply
to everybody."

TSA SPOKESMAN MARK HATFIELD.

Mark Hatfield, TSA Spokesman: "In terms of a violation or a criminal act,
something that violates civil rights or the privacy of an individual,
there's zero tolerance for that. And we'll get to the bottom of that and
root out the individuals."

SOME FEMALE PASSENGERS FEAR IT'S ALL PART OF A GROWING TREND TOWARD MORE AGGRESSIVE SCREENING.

Woman #1: "Sometimes they overdo it. I've been almost stripped,
practically."

Woman #2: "You're sort of treated like a criminal."

Woman #3: "I was like, whoah! You can't do that and the supervisor who I had
been objecting to was standing right there and he said yes, we can."

TSA Employee: "It's very upsetting to see this happen and there are a lot of
screeners that took his job thinking that they could do something good and
many of them have quit and many of them are talking about quitting now."

Andrea McCarren on-set:

SO, WHO INVESTIGATES COMPLAINTS ABOUT TSA SCREENINGS? WELL, THE TSA DOES!

THROUGH THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, WE'VE REQUESTED ALL OF THE PASSENGER COMPLAINTS ABOUT SCREENINGS AT NATIONAL AIRPORT AND WILL REPORT BACK ONCE WE HAVE THAT INFORMATION.

Privatize the operation. TSA is nothing but federalized bozos who are suddenly given a middle class salary and because of it think they're endowed with awesome and overbearing powers.

Wow. :( Someone's head should roll.

While it sounds like there are some really bad apples with no oversight, I have to say that my experience with TSA employees is that they're trying to do a good job and looking out for the public. Over and over again, I've seen TSA employees be polite to the public, using courtesy and humor to calm a tense situation, while they handle the very serious job of keeping us safe.

By the way, thanks to all of them and all the public works and public safety employees who are working today, keeping everything running while the rest of us enjoy Christmas with our families.

Some day they're going to start cutting open people who have recent scars to make sure they don't have surgically implanted plastic explosives. I expect that shortly after they start doing cavity searches -- particularly on females -- which should be any day now.

If terrorists can't figure out how to get bombs on a plane without cross-dressing, they're pretty stupid.

Not just there. I have a wellendowed female friend. She went through DFW to see her granddaughter. They stripped her. She didn't think much of the experience.

while they handle the very serious job of keeping us safe.

I really dont see how they keep anyone safe by doing this, I refuse to fly now. The entire system is just stupid. :barf:

This is what happens when you let the fed. gub'mint take over. let them go back to privatization. Looks like some good lawsuits here if it was a private company. Can't sue the Gub'mint unless they waive sovereign immunity. Although - I can't believe these people let them get away with some of this crap. Can you imagine having someone ask you to strip and then duck-walk??? Its on baby - I'd LOVE them to prosecute me for resisting that one!!

I am going to say this now because I'm not pissed off at the moment and can write rationally, not usually the case when discussing TSA.

Look, people, these are the idiots whose policies brought down three airplanes. It started with folks trying to get to Cuba, and it involved the policy of giving into to so-called hijackers rather than killing them on the spot. Where it led was inevitable given the fact that we are at war with Islam. The very idea that an airplane (or much of anything else except MAYBE some college frat parties) is made safer by a lack of firearms is sufficiently stupid that most who post here recognize it. So why were these dimwits allowed to continue their FAILED policy?

The purpose of the searches is not safety, anyway. If it were, they would be searching all Muslim (particularly mideastern) men and checking credentials on little old ladies. Instead they are harassing little old ladies and children, and occasionally goodlooking young women, while not even checking credentials on mideastern Muslim men. The primary purpose of the searches is to establish authority, and to accustom people to having no rights. A secondary purpose is to have a job controlling money and other folks' jobs. A tertiary purpose, probably not taken seriously, is to make stupid people think that something is being done.

Anyone who would fly on an airplane under those circumstances would **** a ****, and every one of us knows it.

Flame away, you won't hurt my feelings.

occasionally goodlooking young women

From what I have seen they prefer the above for secondary inspection,
again stupid policy, we the consumer can shut them down if we really
want too. Fly only for business purposes............................

Tell me, we do not protect our borders and then strip search our citizen once
we have let the bad guys in country and this is called homeland security at some point folks you will need a passport to go shopping.

I suppose I will chime in a bit on this.

on a recent flight I had a layover in Phoenix that required me to go to another terminal to catch my connector. This, of course, required I re-enter security. I was travelling with one carry-on and my gun checked.
My bag was x-rayed, then I was told it would have to be examined due to a potential weapon in the bag.
Some of the contents were as follows:
shoulder rig for 8.5" SW .44 mag
Surefire flashlight
small Kubotan I accidentally forgot to remove from my keychain
photocopies of Mil. ID and leave form

The weapon? My NAILCLIPPERS!

I could only laugh as they were taken away, placed in an orange baggie, and ESCORTED by two officers to another location. I laughed so hard all through the next flight that the stewardess thought I might be on drugs. Upon talking to her I was made aware that flightcrews are no more appreciative of the TSA than the rest of us.

When will these idiots learn?

When will these idiots learn?

When are enough people going to realize that all this insanity juxtaposed with the presumed integrity and motives for those who currently wield power in this country do not add up. At all.

Much of what occurs in this country now with homeland security is more show
for the sheep then anything and remember we must be PC at all times.
We "have" lost all common sense and it will never it improve until the consumer makes a statement by not using the product.

I almost agree with Wingman, but I take it further and agree with model520fan.

This isn't about security, or about doing a good job.

It is about acclimatizing US Citizens to being treated in whatever manner the government feels like treating them. It is about getting them used to being subservient.

Not flying makes no difference, there is no such thing as a boycott that can be effective. The government does not care if you fly or not. What they are doing is working toward THEIR intended purpose, and will continue, and get worse.

Not flying makes no difference

I must disagree as consumers we can make a large difference in our society
much in part due to the great greed that runs in the business world. It does
however take effort that most Americans are not willing to do, and it can be
done with most products. We are very weak and growing more so each year
at some point total control will be easy. :(

Think of it this way:
Washington=one vote
Lincoln=five votes
Hamilton=ten votes
Jackson=twenty votes

To make it clear to those who do not get it, I don't know the name of the president on the $100 bill. ;) So, we just spent this year going on about makign your votes count, and actions speak louder than words. As a friend on another forum has in his signature, "Money talks, BS just piles up." However, you can't just change where you shop. You have to let them know WHY you do so. If the airlines realize that you're not flying with them because of this crap, then they'll start throwing money around Washington to change it. If all shooters, and all related industry left Kalifornia(with all the money and jobs that go with them), perhaps the politicians would wise up.

"Not using the product" is going to do one thing; finish off what is already in progress - our airline industry. If we had leadership loyal to this country and their office, they would be doing something about these things.

While I very much understand what you mean and somewhat agree, in order
for the American public to maintain control and freedom I still believe the
"best" method is with the dollar bill sad to say its the only thing most under
stand now. :(

I believe the airline industry is breaking themselves and if we accept being
treated like cattle on there turf then it makes sense the same will occur
at other locations.
