Unbelievable. Yaw in tissue to expand? Larger frontal mass= energy++? What kind of bullets have you guys been hunting with? I don't know whether to shoot moose at 500 yards with a muzzleloader or pick off sparrows with 40 grainers in my .22-250 after reading all this?
The government doesn't believe in terminal ballistics, they go to great pains to prevent us from shooting in them.
Having shot game with .357 and .44 mag, I'm not impressed with the "stopping power" of them on deer-sized game, compared with a .30-30, .243 Win, .270 Win, or 30-06, which all do massive damage. I can't imagine the .45 ACP being better on animals. Seeing people try to dispatch wounded animals with a handgun is disappointing. Close-up head and neck shots haven't always killed quickly.
That said, a .45 ACP is a very good man-stopper, and if not as good as a .357 Mag, it's much easier on the ears inside a building. A .357 mag out of a 4-5" barrel is unbelievably ear-shattering and having experienced it without ear protecton, never want to do it again!
