Another sad UPS story

A friend of mine runs an ammo supply shop. He had a customer in Calif call looking for some 7.62x51 MATCH GRADE military surplus. (As many of you know the supply has dried up under Klinton). Anyway, long story, short version, My friend finds a full case, gets it in & re-ships via UPS it to the customer in Calif. The whole case dissapears and of course UPS's tracking system can't even tell them where. Really sad, here is a company that has no control over employee theft, so their answer is to charge us a extra fee (aka blackmail!) to deliver our guns. They sure need some competition!

Did your friend have the shipment insured?

If t'were me, I'd raise hell with UPS' customer disservice hacks. Gently remind them that the cost of replacing the ammo would surely be less than they would have to pay to fight this theft in court.

And BTW: UPS *does* have competition. It's called FedEx. Ever heard of them?

had to have my computer shipped from Florida to here....boxes got in and were badly banged and scuffed up. They were marked in block letters : Computer/Computer Monitor, etc.
I checked it out and my A: drive was not working and there was some obvious 'drop' marks in the front. I reported it to UPS the next day and they said they'd send someone out to look at it. [I'd photographed the boxes before opening]

Guy shows up and says 'Where is it?' I go to take him to my comp room and he says "No, I'm supposed to TAKE the computer."

Like, yeah-right. They have computer techs for just such occaisions at the office?

I just replaced it and fixed it up. Forget a second trip thru them and I will NEVER use UPS to deliver anything of value or fragility.

I just got my new Browning Tornado bow yesterday. It came UPS. Thank God the people at Cabelas packed it in 500 miles of foam! The box looked like it was ran over by a truck!!! I was very angry until I discovered that it was not damaged. No thanks to UPS!

Here's a GOOD ONE FOR YOU!...
A FFL dealer comes home to find 3 packages sitting in front of the side door to his shop. The UPS driver just left them there without the reciever signing for them or anything. Guess what was inside???? 2 SKS rifles, and a case of ammo. The neighbor kids could have had a real blast! When the dealer called UPS to raise hell, they first asked.... Who was the driver? DOOOOH!!!!!

" I SHOOT BACK! "

The last time I ordered something that was shipped via UPS, I was given a tracking number for a package that had been delivered to NH two weeks before I even placed an order!

FWIW, FedEx has a far more sophisticated/accurate tracking system than anyone else.

A fellow in TX was suppose to send me a blackpowder rifle via UPS. Well, when he got there, he was told that they would only ship it via overnite. Mind you, this is a 140 plus year old technology and a long gun at that. Well it cost him almost $60 to send it to me. He's pissed at UPS and I'm not happy either. There has to be a better way.

Maybe someone should start a (reliable) cross-country firearms courier service. Insurance would probably be very high, but you could use an unmarked armored van. (Plus, you know the driver would be armed! :D)Insurance would be high but if it costs 60 bucks thru UPS, why not $60 thru a reliable one that specializes in arms transportation?
Hmmm.....
I could just paint "Moonflower" on the side and paint my van in Hippie colors! The perfect disguise! ;)

I work at Barrett mfg, my wife works with a former UPS employee. He says they would intentionally try to destroy boxes that were destined to or from gunshops or gun related firms. In the last 3 months, we have had more claims than ever because of mistreatment of our shipping boxes.

Cabelas?

I live 45 minutes from THE Cabelas in Minnesota. (snort! chuckle!)

Went there last Saturday to buy the Shotgun for my son. Great place. Gotta see it to believe it.

something else that really tovked me off about UPS...remember when they had "The Strike"? Drivers wanted more money? They made what $16 or $18 an hour? I'm legally blind. Can drive but for limited periosa of time. I was homeless and working for a rent-a-drunk at the time. I brought home $21 a day for what was about 12 or 14hrs if you include the wait time to go out nad the wait time after to get paid. And THEY wanna piss an moan about not making enough money?!?!?

As a stockholder of FDX, I always love to hear horror tales of UPS' package handling. I hate the fact that it happened to you guys, though.

I, personally, have no experience with shipping anything UPS. I have, however, received undamaged SMALL things from them. I sure don't want to defend UPS in any way, but I must admit that every package carrier today does damage some packages from time to time (unfortunately). UPS seems to excel at it though, especially when said package deals with the delivery of firearms and ammunition.
In fact, when it comes to that, I've heard NOTHING but tales of horror about UPS.

Based on everyone else's experience with UPS, I know NEVER to ship any firearm-related item via Big Brown.

I think the previous posts on this thread speak for themselves.

Some time back I took a great deal of flak from a young lady at the UPS counter before I could ship a rifle out for work; her supervisor finally told her to do something else and handled my order with no further ado. Just noticed in the local paper where that particular lady was engaged to be married. She and the lucky man are off to Las Vegas where the knot will be tied by a minister dressed as an Elvis impersonator. Somehow it all adds up.

It isn't just firearms.
My father in law just sent us a glider chair as a baby shower present. It came in 4 boxes (one for chair, one for ottoman, one each for cushions). The boxes looked like they had gone with Hannibal over the $%&^*#! Alps. The moron who delivered them handed me two boxes sideways that were clearly marked THIS SIDE UP with an arrow pointing the correct direction. He forgot the fourth package. Rather than have me yell at him again he did a ring-and-run with the last package some 4 hours later.
I am definitely going to use something other than UPS next time I ship something.

Ain't that the truth, Robert?

My dad was one of the FFL dealers who would sometimes come home to find rifles and other goodies sitting on our doorstep. Since the shop was a building behind the house, they normally just left stuff on the front step of the house by the front door.

UPS delivery speed really sucks. I've gotten better results using the U.S. Postal Service.
Been waiting a week now for some parts to arrive from Numrich Parts, might get here next monday. Can't say all UPS drivers are slow, had one drive over my mail box knocking it down. Road was a bit slick from winter snows.

Ditto here. Had a 10fp in from the factory for repair work. UPS driver had set it on the front porch.

A while after that I'd ordered several cases of ammo, x39 variation. One driver who sore of knew me, dropped it off at my office location, and it was a partial drop.
Thing is, my company has explicit rules about firearms, and ammunition on the premises. It likely could have meant my job, until I proved innocence in this stupidity. Even though the shipping label showed my home address, it was signed for by an uninformed employee. There were a couple cases of ammo sitting there, labeled explosives, the whole enchilada.
The other case, which is supposed to have signatures, was lying on my front porch several days later.
When I confronted UPS about this, I was told, "since the other(ammo) drop was signed for, that covers this one as well. This was to be delivered as one shipment, and was unfortumately separated."
Then came the question, "You did get it, right?"

Best Regards,
Don

First off, for someone at UPS to be paid 18+/hour, they have to have been working there for close to 20 years. Secondly, most of those drivers work damn hard for that idiotic company and have a right to raises just like anyone else. My dad has worked at UPS for 22 years and its not an easy job by any means. Granted, there are quite a few idiots working there (aka management), but a majority of the folks are honest hardworking people like yourself.

FedEx also isn't staffed by union thugs. UPS is. They're "protected" by their union from just about anything except felony assault and murder.

(Sorry to any union guys on the board, but that's how I feel.)

The next time you see S. Benz ask him if he has any Easter Goats 4 Sale.... if you work for the same Barrett that I am thinking of you'll know who Mr. Benz is, and he'll know who I am by the question. :)

Don't think that FedEx is any better. I sit outside of my wife's office to pick her up every afternnon. I see the FedEx drivers literally trow the boxes from the curb into the truck (6-10 feet) I have complainted and my wife has complained. FedEx makes nice noises and the drivers continue to throw their loads around like they were garbage. (I need a video camera.)
