FWIW, most of the FAL magazine fillers are set up to receive 7.62x51 NATO stripper clips, i.e. M14 strippers. Place mag filler on mag, insert loaded stripper into mag filler, shove rounds off of stripper into the mag. It works great!

The biggest problem is the shortage of strippers. $.50 each is not a bad price, $.25 each is very good, get all you can at that price.

As Mr. Chavez pointed out, the internal magazine is tactically superior for everything but wild-eyed-spraying.

.308 is an excellent cartridge for most uses.

I would offer the suggestion of using M1 Garand or possibly M1 Carbine rear sights. They are fairly available and easy to use.
 
One economical way to have this happen would be for ZDF (Robinson) to have Molot manufacture the design in Russia.

The RPK vepr based tooling is online right now, but the operation rod of an AK blocks a stripper clip loading design
 
Yes, except...

...then it'd be subject to silly import rules and such. It'd have to be made right here in the USA.

It wouldn't be marketed as an SKS, obviously, but it would be based on the design.
