Another Dream Rifle Thread

The ultimate AR15

AR15 with a magwell long enough to accept 80 gr SMK's with an ACOG calibrated for this ammo out to 1000 yards.

Also add 1/4 MOA sights, a fluted bull barrel in 1:7 twist with chrome plated bore, free float forearm and a boatload of 20 round magazines for it.

The only load would be the 80 grainers at 2800 ft/second. Preferably one with a little higher BC, say .445.

UPDATE!

With Precision Shootings article on the .22-243, I will have to make that an AR10-T with the upper chambered in this caliber....1500 yard shots on praire dogs? 80 gr JLK's at 3500 ft/sec? I need one of these!

Hmmmm

How about

IMI or someone else making the Timberwolf again, in .357 and .454

or

A new 1886, in 50-110, or something else big besides 45-70

I believe there is a niche in the market

...for a bolt-action rifle, medium weight barrel with iron sights and integral muzzle-brake. Detachable magazines (5 and 10 rounds), and a provision for scope mounting.

Not a scout rifle, a general purpose rifle.

remington 600 w/ 18"BBL in 35 whelen. synthetic stock, ching sling scout mount and leupold M* 2.5X IER scope.

Dangus, Ruger made a semi-auto carbine in .44 Maggie...

Guess I'm lucky. I've been shooting my "dream" rifles for 30 years, now. I keep fondling stuff in the gun stores, and they just don't do any more for me than what I already have. "Ol' Pet", a Wby Mk V in .30-'06 with a 26" barrel and a Canjar trigger; and my little Sako, .243 with a 19" tack-driving barrel.

Since around 1963, I've only let one rifle "get away" that I've always since regretted: A Ruger 77 heavy barrel .220 Swift that I put a Canjar single-set trigger on. A real tack-driver; I did in a bunch of feral housecats, out to 350/400 yards. Wish I had it back...

Shin-Tao: No, not for boars. Weightlifters on crack&speed wearing thick leather jackets.
-------------------------------

I remember you once wrote a physical description of yourself being rather light weight, so i would suggest that if you use hot loads for that 45-70, rather than shoulder it, you should anchor the butt into the ground and fire it upwards like a mortar stopping the wolley bohemouth crack-head as that round was designed to do, over a century ago. Heck, if the BG is anything less than 250#'s, you should be able to lift him clear outta his boots. =)

Easy to please

How about a M-1 chambered and rebarreled for 8mmx57 Mauser?

I think that would be really sweet. Surplus Turk ammo is dirt cheap (about $1.20 per box in bulk).

Dream rifles eh?

Take-Down Bolt Action 30.06 based on the O3A3, with a Scout type scope mount and harris bi-pod.

FAL style Semi-automatic .30-30.

Bolt action .22WMR with a 24 inch bull barrel, scope and bi-pod.

.50 peacekeeper bolt action single shot, with a Model 70 style action.

Also I wouldnt mind having an AR-15 style rifle from Smoking Hole Pistol Design.

These are my dream rifles.
The only two I want like a passion tho are the .50 peacekeeper and the take down ought six.

I'll play:

Take a controlled round feed M-70 Classic Featherweight barreled action in .308, cut the barrel to 20", modify the action to accept stripper clips, and install an Ashley scout scope mount. Pillar bed it into a McMillan classic stock as on the M-70 Classic Stainless (no skinny schnabel forend), finished in gray or OD with 3 Pachmayr type swivels for a Ching Sling and a well-rounded recoil pad. Flip up ghost ring sights, a tough rust-resistant matte black finish, and a good out of the box trigger would be nice too.

Oh, and I want the price to be reasonable in comparison to a standard Model 70 Classic, not three or four times the price of the standard rifle as with the Steyr Scout.

Well,
A pre-64 style LH bolt-action in 35 Whelan, 24" mid-weight barrel, iron sights w/ghost ring... my moose package... only available sans sights w/std barrel for much moolah from Win custom shop.......
Any good looking Mannlicher-stocked LH bolt in 308, 7-08 or 260 rem...
Oh, so many guns, so little money!:(

Hmmm....

A 18" lever carbine in .454 Casull/.45LC, 9+1 capacity.

A semiauto .30-'06 carbine, synthetic stock, 10-rnd detachable single-stack box magazine, (or, could be fed from STRIPPER CLIPS!) and a 16" barrel, with a good muzzle brake. Scout-scope type mountings, and a sling.

An 18" pump rifle, available in all the chamberings lever rifles are usually available in.

A 12-ga lever action shotgun, 18 or 20" barrel.

An AR-7 with a 30 round magazine. :)
