Another 22 - SR22, Bersa Thunder 22, Walther PPK/s 22

The Bersa Thunder 22 is a bit picky because the heavy slide needs enough power from the ammo to cycle the gun. What I've found is any copper washed ammo rated at 1200 fps or more works well. All the CCI HV ammo works, but on the less costly Remington Golden Bullets works well also.
 
Beretta Cheetah .22 is one of the best fun guns ever. More expensive than many, but you get what you pay for.

This. I have the Beretta 87 Cheetah, and it is a small marvel. Not a target pistol, but plenty accurate, reliable, and a lot of fun to shoot.
 
My Bersa .22 has yet to fire a mag full of ammo without a malfunction no matter what ammo is used. The factory tech told me it was all well but my results improved only slightly. It is not the most well made pistol but as ptrviously posted is not Zmac alloy like the new Walther.
As far as the Walther PPK s my pistol will eat pretty much everything i feed it and asks for more. The pistol has a flatt finish that defies explaination leaving the pistol flat black And rather cheap looking even if it does shoot well.
For a small plinker the S& W m&P-22 is a real keeper in the compac size as is the Browning 1911-22, spend a few bucks more and get quality pistol that will outlast you and the kids
 
Have a Bersa .380 and .22. The little .22 is one of the finest little .22's made period! I've had SIG mosquito's, Walther P22's, and on and on. None of them were near the gun the little metal Bersa is. The frame is aluminum and the slide steel unlike a lot of the more recent guns that use a zinc-aluminum alloy for the slide. My Mosquito's slide cracked within 6 months of heavy use. At least the Bersa is made like it's bigger brother. A "real gun" to me.
 
between the three I would personally go with the Ruger. I've used the Bersa, it wasn't very accurate. Walther 22s have bad reputations because they are made by a Umarex, a company that has more experience making bb guns and airsoft than actual firearms and use shoddy materials(see Walther P22 slide warping). the Ruger is made in USA by a company that knows a thing or two about making good 22lr firearms.
 
The SR22 is on my long list of guns I would love to buy. Only .22 on the market that you can stuff 15 rounds into the magazine with the right aftermarket magazine extension bumper.
 
There are kits for the GSG/Sig 1911-22 that allow 16 rounds, kits for the Colt/Walther 1911-22 that allow 17 rounds, and pistols like the Excel Arms X-22, Tactical Innovations Cohort, and Intratec Tec 22 that use Ruger 10/22 magazines. The current highest capacity 10/22 mag is the GSG drum that holds 110 rounds.

Not trying to be smart, but the SR22 is not the high capacity leader in 22 pistols
 
Saw a Baretta 87 posted for sale locally. Beautiful pistol and probably worth the $650 he's asking for it. A little rich for me but a beauty nonetheless.
 
The only on on gunbroker is listed at $1200. The cheetah pistols are gorgeous and I'd love to add one to my .22 collection some day, but a lot I'd enjoy just as much at lower price points.
 
John...I'd have to agree. I've got a Mk III 22/45 that's really accurate and fun. I've got a High Standard Sentinel R-100 that's fun but nearly as accurate.

Really looking for another relatively inexpensive plinker.

The Beretta is a beautiful pistol. No question about it. But even $650 is a little too pricey for my intentions....tin cans and paper.
 
I have the Bersa Thunder 22 and it can be picky on ammo...it likes CCI mini-mag.

I have a Ruger SR-22; a very good, reliable, fun to shoot 22.

But my favorite, favorite 22 is my Beretta Model 71 22lr...uber reliable; even shoots subsonic without any failures. Faux suppressor has been removed; this pistol is a gem!
 
A friend of mine just brought over a Bersa 22 to try out, it's going back. Too finicky and one should never have to use a come along to pull a trigger, WAAAY to stiff. But he could have always got a lemon, but I haven't been very impressed with Bersa's guns in the last few years.
 
We have an SR22. Its a great gun. Goes go the range just above everytime we go. Couldn't tell you how many 1000's of rounds have gone thru it. Not picky about ammo and I think its a good looking gun. Have fun

Mine too -- both of them. Full-spectrum reliability from standard-velocity through hyper-velocity is a nice feature. Also shockingly shootable with a SA trigger that was designed for the shooter rather than lawyers. They were $250 for most of 2016, but judging by GB, it looks like the price has now moved solidly into the mid-300's.

I've had roughly 10 22's over the last 20 years, and this is the one I was always looking for -- a perfect blend of shootability and size-efficiency for the caliber.

Yes, the SR22 is a real pleasure to shoot. It is also a real pleaser. Whenever I take Noobs to the range I bring an SR22 along for them to shoot. Everyone is always delighted with it.

Same, by the way, for Ruger Mark pistols.
 
Roger...agree 100% on the Mk series. I have a Mk III 22/45 that is a great little 22. Had a grip mod done to accommodate some Ruger rubber grips and it feels just wonderful in the hand. I've heard people call them boringly accurate. And mine is. And reliable with just about any kind of HV ammo.

I'm just looking for another range toy, hoping to keep it in the neighborhood of $300.

I'm impressed with the generally good reviews I read about the SR22. Mostly reliable with most ammo and then there's the Ruger reputation for customer service.

Well, keep the SR22 in mind. I liked mine so much I bought a second one. Really a nice little pistol.
