Ann Coulter's "Sad-free zone"

Big Don, good post! +1

Ann Coulter's "Sad-free zone" said:
...
The best we can do is enact policies that will reduce the death toll when these acts of carnage occur, as they will in a free and open society of 300 million people, most of whom have cable TV.

Only one policy has ever been shown to deter mass murder: concealed-carry laws. In a comprehensive study of all public, multiple-shooting incidents in America between 1977 and 1999, the inestimable economists John Lott and Bill Landes found that concealed-carry laws were the only laws that had any beneficial effect.

And the effect was not insignificant. States that allowed citizens to carry concealed handguns reduced multiple-shooting attacks by 60 percent and reduced the death and injury from these attacks by nearly 80 percent.

Good post! While not everything that Ms. Coulter writes about may be perfect or 100% correct, this one is right on the mark. Basically, universal CHL/CCW raises the cost of violent behavior and reduces it...when violent behavior does occur, it tend to be stopped by CHL/CCW holders.

It also shows that much of the blame for VA Tech massacre lies at the hands of those legislators and university officials who made the university "gun free" zone.

Best regards.

No, we mean conservatives. I would not call this admistration moderate.

I must have missed where the topic was somehow limited to this certainly non-conservative administration.

Wow, that is some logic. I guess every hated person in the world is only hated because they are right. Some people, like Coulter, are just worthless propagandists that feed off negativity.

Wow, that's some lame way of dodging the point. We are not talking about people in general, but specifically Coulter, who is bashed by the left because she so thoroughly picks away at them. If you'd like to discuss everyone else, or extend that singular point elsewhere, feel free. Just don't try to drag me into such a drift.

She spews garabage solely to get attention with no real merit to most of what she says."

But that's the whole point, isn't it?

I think it is, and I'm with PBP on this one. I think that the extreme rhetoric put out by both sides only serves to divide the country and is a very negative thing. which I don't see how anyone can support.

I'd much prefer to have intelligent, to-the-point commentary with evidence than flamboyant rhetoric with no point other than to infuriate the other side while tossing an idea around here and there. It's detrimental. Offer an opinion, fine, but I really don't appreciate kicking a bee nest when you could present your ideas in a much more efficient manner.

I don't like her. At all. That's my opinion, nothing more.

I am offended!!!

I find it extremely offensive that people who simply disagree with someone or the manner in which someone makes a point lowers themselves to a personal attack. The laughing part is that they are doing what they accuse the other person of doing, and not getting paid for it either. Tactic followed very much by the Nazis in the early days of their rise to power.

Since some of you are so quick to be "offended" by what Ann says I am joining in - I am offended by what you say! And I don't think it is beneficial to the right to keep and bear arms to attack friends.

I think I recall another post where some on this forum attacked the statement by Charlton Heston about "cold dead hands". In fact I think the attacking was done by some of those now attacking Ann Coulter.

In legal circles the advise is given to beginning lawyers, "if the facts favor your case, argue the facts; if the law favors your case, argue the law; if neither the facts or the law favor your case ATTACK THE OPPOSITION!"

I rest my case.

John Who WILL be taking my wife to see and hear Ann on
Mayberry, NC May 10th. And looking forward to it, now more that ever!

I too loathe Ann Coulter. I tried to read her article and it frightens me that I might agree with some thing she has written. Not to mention she has crazy eyes and the biggest adam's apple I've seen this side of Rue Paul.

I'm not liberal, I'm not conservative, and I despise PC bull$hit as much as anyone, but IMHO Ann Coulter is a loud and deranged idiot. Why any rational being would want her to represent them is beyond me.

Unfortunately, in modern America, only the shrillest idiots from the extreme left and right are heard. Ordinary people are never represented.

Man I cant belive the hatred and name calling for a woman that is tring to get a point across that " gun free zones " was the most stupid thing to
come down the pike since Al Gore and global warming.
As some one who is speaking out for the RKBA and CCW to protect oneself
from the likes of a VT tragedy let me ask you all what have you done for the
RKBA and CCW lately.I think all that energy used in name calling and insults about her looks could be put to better use.
IMO she is a good looking broad and if I was a little younger:D

just my $.02

Having Ann talk about "tring to get a point across that " gun free zones " was the most stupid thing" makes our case for CCW worse. Its not a good idea to have a crazy person represent you

Hmmm. After reading Big Don's topic, I don't see it as discussion about Coulter herself
When the original poster started the post off with the following comment he very much opened the topic up to Ann herself and the way she handles herself.
Some people don't like her free-swinging style. I, on the other hand, love it.
He made a value judgment about the source of the article and therefore all the posts that called her credibility into question were valid and on topic.

I will add, once again, that I completely agree with the message of the article. I would just never use Coulter as a source to try and validate a position.

GOD BLESS ANN COULTER!!
Ann is alot like Ted Nugent, they say things in such a way as to provoke a response. Usually the response takes the form of a hissy fit, because that is all her opponents can muster. Facts have a way of compromising even the the most powerfull straw man argument.
Wether or not you "like" her, the fact remains, she is hard to refute.

"When the original poster started the post off with the following comment he very much opened the topic up to Ann herself and the way she handles herself."

I viewed it as how she opined to the 'Gun Free Zone' , not what medical opinions you have of her...

Well, lookee here. Ferget Ann Coulter (I find her entertaining on occasion . . ). What has stopped school shootings has been armed citizens, not 'gun-free victim zones', not cops, not PC/psycho-social wellness programs.

Reference the Applalachin School of Law about 4 yrs ago, where 2 students (both had VA CHPs, IIRC) ran to their cars, got their guns, and stopped and held a shooter at gunpoint till the cops arrived. See also Pearl, MS, high school, where the vice principal ran to his truck, got his gun, and stopped a shooter who had killed 2 and wounded 7. On a good day, the cops get there in time to keep score and take notes - not their fault, BTW.

Compare and contrast to VT, where 30/32 fatalities occurred after the police arrived (this is not a swipe at the cops, they were a long way from knowing what was going on at the time . . )

Those students are absolutely, positively victims of 'gun control'. 9-1-1 my donkey:barf:

Just Returned

The message delivered by Ann Coulter this evening was very much a pro 2nd Amendment lecture. Frankly I felt my $114 was well spent, and for those for whom it is necessary, I will remind you that it was MY MONEY and my and my wife's time.

An attractive, articulate lady who talks favorably and factually about guns is somewhat rare - perhaps that is why some of those expressing their "views" object to her.

The danger we face is not from a frontal assault by our enemies but criticism from our "so-called friends" who seek to prevent us from acting at all. One of the best things that Ann said is that in defense of freedom it is time to take off the gloves!

Barry Goldwater said it years ago, "When it comes to our freedom, silence is not golden, it is yellow".

Ann may be a lot of things but yellow is not one of them.

You have to know how to take Ann

She is sharp as a tack and usually right on the issues. Her wit is sharp and you have to stay sharp to keep up with her. If you read any of her books, you would see that she "gets it".
Some folks seemed to like Dennis Rodman....For the life of me, I couldn't see a squirt worth in him...Different people see things differently...It is a shame...The world would be so much better off if it only saw things the way me and my dog do! ;)

You have a problem with that?

MDman - And???

Wait, I see you are in Maryland. That explains everything. Have a nice day.
