Ammo? Why so scarce?

Around my parts you have better odds of seeing Elvis or a UFO than a box of 380, 9mm and 45acp isn't much better. Oddly there is an abundance of
40S&W as of late and I have to wonder if this has to do with demand by law enforcement agencies causing a priority to manufacture 40S&W. I really don't know but it seems odd that 40cal keeps coming in, and it is selling so its not like no one is buying it. The very few times I have seen 380, which has been only a handful of box's the price was insane.

I've never had a problem getting ammo what so ever in suburban Detroit area. However if you cant score at Walmart, you're gonna be paying 16-20 bucks for a 50 count of 9mm luger. 19-23 bucks for .40 S&W. Which are my 2 most common cal. The .380 has been showing up a the local gun shops here. And still is.... I dunno the cost on those as I don't own a .380. But it has been on the shelves for at least a couple weeks now.

Well.... I'll be... I just dropped around 50 bucks in 15-20 minutes at the range. I guess I could make it last "longer". But I've got multiple mags for each handgun I own. And I'll load'em up prior to my first trigger pull.

New shooters.... take note! While the cost of reloading supplies have increase just about the same as everything else. It is far and away so much cheaper to load you own. Take a look into the "Lee" presses at Midway. For around 300 bucks you can be sitting in front of your own loader, loading your own shells! And thats at this day and age of pricing.

Now for a quick pricing comparison to show you, using the .9mm round as a gauge:

Before the insanity reload cost per 50 count = $4.50 approx.
At this very days cost insanity per 50 count = $7.00 approx.

It'll take a little tinkering to get out of it what your looking for. But there are so many howto threads, videos, classes. And shooters more than anxious to volunteer their knowledge to help another. (Plus its another thing for a shooter to boast about, and add validity to their knowledge at face value)

The last comment *(....)* was somewhat of a little joke. Because how many times have you went to a range where the guy next to you always knows a little more, and has a little more than you. :D

Its showing they are out of stock until Sept. 12 which is the expected stock shipment for the .9mm and Sept. 14 for the .40. s&w.

No Ammo - Scared into Buying

I haven't had any trouble finding ammo to meet my needs and them some. I shoot 22, 9mm, 44 cal, 223, 12 ga, and 410 ga.

The pundits are saying that the ammo and gun buying increase is due to the Obama administration taking office. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE.

The gun and ammo buying upswing is because of all the hype the pro-gun lobby made over what would most certainly happen if the dems won the white house.

Figure it out, the supreme court has recently made the most pro-gun ruling in the last century.

Yes, we must be diligent and protect our rights, but it is assinine to pretend like the wolf is always a the door.

I'm a member of the NRA, and will stay a member, but sometimes the hype is over the top.

Yep, lots of scared people bought all the ammo they could afford...and then some.

Guns, especially tacticool pieces are back in stock, and settling back toward pre-obamamania prices. Ammo is still about 30-50% higher than it was this time last year, but at least it is in stock (here in the midwest anyway). You can get all the .223/5.56 you want, if you'll pay a king's ransom for it. 9x19 is in stock, and sometimes I can get it for $9-$10 a box for FMJ plinking ammo. I haven't seen .45acp since November of last year. That may take a while to come back, and even longer to go back down in price (last time I bought .45 I paid $12/50. Now I see it for twice that if not more).

It's coming back. Just give it time. Of course, if someone in D.C. says something silly, it will start the whole thing over again.

If you can find it, ammo is still rather expensive around here.

Funny thing is 9mm and .40 is usually easier to find yet .22 is always sold out...except for crappy Winch's.

I got a bunch of .22LR.
But that's only because Wallyworld used to sell the Federal 550 round box for about eight or nine dollars.
Every time I went in to buy something, I picked up a box of .22.
I shoot a LOT of .22!!!

ammo shortage

Wish I l;ived in that part of Texas spoken of that haS "plenty" of ammo, Wal Marts here in San Antonio still sporting cobwebs in their ammo shelves. Thank Heavens I had stockpiled .380 AND 9MM for several months before the BOTTOM FELL OUT.
