Ammo stored with your guns?

You have a safe you store all your guns it.
Question is, do you store your ammo in the safe with you guns?
Your safe is locked with combo or key lock.

When I get a safe to store my guns in it, the ammo stays with it.
One safe.
Everything is in one place.
Good for kid safety.
Nothing gets lost.

guns in home safe...ammo in safe deposit box at bank....trigger lock key on string 60 feet down abandoned well....a little slow but safety ain't fast......

I used to. But now my gun safe is full of guns and magazines and I've got so much ammo that it will no longer fit in the safe ;)

I store ammo in the guns in my safe by keeping them loaded. I leave loaded mags and speedloaders laying around, too.

HET,

I went that route for about six months. Then I outgrew storage capacity.

I'm seriously thinking about putting a steel safe door on the spare bedroom.:D

Some ammo is stored in the safe. However, the safe is for guns and it's either the guns or the ammo. There isn't enough room for both!

Most of my ammo is stored in .50 cal ammo cans or stackable tupperware containers. I have well over 10K rounds scattered about. Ahh the beauty of progressive presses :D

Sure, ammo covering floor of safe, over a foot deep. Nifty adjustable shelf for the buttstocks to rest, keeps getting set higher. Nothing like an extra 2 or 3 hundred pounds inside of the safe, to make it harder to lug off :)

HET,

Like above, all my ammo will not fit in my safe but a lot of it in the safe makes it heavier.

I don’t believe in keeping all my eggs in one basket. The gun safe is a prime target for a burglar. I recommend keeping full auto stuff in the safe to keep the FEDs happy but keep most of your stuff spread around to be hard for burglars to find and easy for you to access when you NEED it.

Good luck!

My ammo is in ammo cans. How much ammo do you guys stock that you can fit it in your safe with your guns? When I think of the ammo and guns secured together, I think of a walk in vault.

Separate cabinets with different combos, ammo & mags in one...weapons without mags in the other. This forces someone to open/steal two different things to come up with a lethal combination. The only exception is my carry gun, which is loaded, since it is much more effective that way...

Why not turn one of your closets into a safe? Line the walls, floor and ceiling with steel, and but a steel door (the front of it might look like an ordanary door). That should allow plenty of room for the pistols, rifles, shotguns, and all the accessories.
One place for everything is safe... Especially with kids, and you not home!

One problem with storing ammo in the safe is if there's a fire, which is a lot more likely than theft. Ammo that is not stored in a strong container isn't all that dangerous in a fire, but enough ammo in a safe may be a different matter. Besides, it wouldn't do the guns any good to have all that stuff flying around in the safe. :)

Ammo in safe going off...

I've been wondering about that - my guns are in a firesafe that is supposed to keep paper from charring for like 2 hours. I believe that gives a temp of less then 400 inside the safe...will ammo go off at that temp?

I keep most of my self-defense ammo in the safe with the pistols where I can reach them. Majority of target rounds (5-6000) sit in ammo cans or in their cardboard cases.
