Ammo storage

If you go with a pallet, tote, ammo cans, then goldenrod heater stick thing; you will have some of the best stored ammo in the country. I just have ammo cans on a pallet and it works quite well.

The surplus GI Ammunition Cans, 30 caliber size would likely work fine, and their covers included a good rubber gasket. Descant packs could always be added. These surplus ammo containers used to be quite cheap, likely not these days, but they served well.

I prefer the .50 cal cans by a large margin. I can usually get more cubic inches for my storage and I seem to have less wasted space in the large ones. I only have a few, mostly filled with 12 ga shells, but that has been my experience.

The holy grail of ammo storage is an old steel refrigerator shell with few modifications and a golden rod IMO.

Sadly, the days of cheap ammo cans have passed. I was in an Army/Navy store just last week. Surplus steel .30-Cal ammo cans (in less than pristine condition) were $20 each. .50-Cal (in worse condition) were $25 each.

Several companies now offer plastic ammo cans in the same sizes. I dislike plastic, but it may be better for damp-resistant storage, since it won't rust.

I'm seeing $12 cans up here, but you need to inspect them for rust and dents.

They used to be common as dirt, but no longer. Were I starting over on ammo storage needs, the good plastic cans would be the way to go.

I keep mine in a metal storage locker.

I use plastic tool boxes that came with a big rust inhibitor decal, keep them in a closet on the first floor. I've got ammo that's been held that way for over a decade that shoots fine. However I did ruin a box of cheap .22 LR ammo by keeping it in an airtight box designed for kayaking within one of the toolboxes. And by ruin I mean it didn't cycle through my 10/22 extended mags.

Put mine in a Rubbermaid container, and its in the closet.
But I am single, so no wife to answer to.
Its just my daughter and I.
