Ammo question for Leos

This usually happens when you are on the road and there is a police check point(this is regular and the police put up check point in different places each day, you never know where they will be).
If they stop you and ask if you carry a firearm and you are legally carrying then they ask for the gun and permit, if you have HPs, they will state it is Ilegal some will say it is the law, if you confront them and ask what law they will comeup with something stupid like this: (I heard this one my self " It is ilegal for the private citizen to carry explosive ammo" In spanish Hollow point bullet is translated Bala Expansiva Ignorant people long ago began calling Hp Bala Explosiva this translates to Explosive bullet. Even if You try to explain what a HP is it is no use, all this time they have your weapon and there is a chance that if you give them a hard time they will take the gun just to make your life worst, so you end up leaving the ammo taking your gun and finishing your trip)

I know it sucks!!! but there is still hope. There are some advantages here, for example if you have a permit it also serves as a conceal carry permit. If you brandish without intention there is no concequence some others I will mention later.
Thanks for the clarification. We do not typically have such checkpoints here in the United States, though occasionally individual state, county and municipal law enforcement agencies will establish drunk driving roadblocks - and whether you revealed your concealed weapon in that context would depend upon the law of the applicable state.

I'm not familiar with the laws in your country, nor with the amount of latitude/discretion/potential for corruption granted to those law enforcement officers you might encounter, so my best counsel would be to use your best judgment.

Order some 'PowerBall' (Federal?/CorBon?). Looks just like ball ammo, and they couldn't tell the difference. Performs like JHP.

Cor Bon Pow'RBall is easily distinguishable from FMJ as it has a polymer ball in the nose that is not completely covered by the jacket. Federal EFMJ (Expanding Full Metal Jacket) on the other hand, looks just like a flat-nosed FMJ. Perhaps a revolver with a relatively soft lead LSWC (lead semi-wadcutter) or HBWC (hollowbase wadcutter) would be an idea. While these bullet styles do not offer the expansion of a hollowpoint, they do expand some and are a good deal better than FMJ. These bullet types were preferred by police here in the United States before hollowpoints became prevalent.

Expolsive Ammo? Wait did I read that right?
Correct me if I am wrong but once the trigger is pulled does the gunpowder in the bullet not explode?
Making every bullet, center-fire, or rim-fire, "explosive ammo"?

Glad to be alive and well and living in the USA:)

Rugergirl: The term "explosive ammo" is from the Spanish translating back into English. They call almost anything "hollow point" explosive. From the way a HP expands they call it "explosivo". Totally incorrect but it probably from too many movies.

I lived in El Salvador for 17 years and the gun laws were strict there as well. Being a US citizen I was not allowed to purchase, own or otherwise have in my possession. However, my friend who owned a security company and provided body guard service happened to leave a Mossberg .12 ga at my house with 12 rounds of 00 and slug for two years along with the registration card. He also left a Glock .40 with two loaded mags and about 30 more rounds at my house. :) That guy was sure forgetful.
